Corporate Environment Health Safety Director

The Corporate Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) provides strategic leadership for all environmental, health, and safety initiatives across a rapidly growing, multi-site manufacturing organization. This individual is responsible for developing and implementing a world-class EHS management system that creates a consistent approach to safety, environmental compliance, risk reduction, and employee engagement across all facilities. The successful candidate will be a hands‑on leader who is passionate about building a strong safety culture, partnering with operations, and driving continuous improvement. This role will establish standardized policies, procedures, training, and accountability while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Safety Leadership & Culture Lead the development of a proactive, behavior-based safety culture across all manufacturing facilities. Build organizational accountability by partnering with executive leadership, plant management, and supervisors to make safety a core business value. Develop initiatives that increase employee engagement, ownership, and participation in safety programs. Establish leading and lagging safety metrics and drive continuous improvement through data analysis. Promote visible leadership involvement in safety through plant visits, audits, coaching, and communication. Corporate Safety Programs Develop, standardize, and maintain enterprise‑wide EHS policies, procedures, and best practices. Implement consistent safety programs across all facilities, including: Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Machine Guarding Powered Industrial Trucks Confined Space Fall Protection Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Electrical Safety Welding and Fabrication Safety Contractor Safety Standardize incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes. Develop company‑wide safety training and onboarding programs. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Develop standardized environmental programs covering waste management, stormwater, air permitting, hazardous materials, and sustainability initiatives. Coordinate environmental reporting and regulatory interactions as required. Monitor changing regulatory requirements and implement necessary compliance programs. Manufacturing Support Partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Human Resources to integrate EHS into daily operations. Conduct regular facility assessments and identify opportunities to reduce risk while improving operational performance. Assist facilities with hazard assessments, ergonomic improvements, process safety, and equipment safety reviews. Support new facility startups, acquisitions, and expansion projects by integrating corporate EHS standards. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and applicable state regulations. Lead internal audits and prepare facilities for regulatory inspections. Develop corrective action plans and verify timely completion. Oversee workers' compensation trends and injury reduction initiatives. Manage relationships with insurance carriers, consultants, and regulatory agencies. Leadership Build strong relationships across all levels of the organization. Mentor plant leadership and local EHS personnel. Drive consistency while recognizing operational differences across multiple facilities. Establish annual EHS objectives and regularly communicate progress to executive leadership. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of progressive EHS leadership experience in a manufacturing environment. Multi‑site manufacturing leadership experience. Demonstrated success developing and implementing enterprise‑wide safety programs. Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and environmental regulations. Experience leading safety culture transformation initiatives. Proven ability to influence leaders at all organizational levels. Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills. Ability to travel approximately 40–60% to manufacturing locations. Preferred Experience in welding, metal fabrication, structural steel, heavy manufacturing, or large‑scale industrial production. Experience supporting high‑volume manufacturing operations with multiple shifts. CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH, CHMM, or other relevant professional certifications.
