Enforce local and state traffic laws Pursue individuals observed committing criminal acts Issue citations Arrest individuals pursuant to a warrant Remove abandoned vehicles Serve warrants Pursue and arrest felons Aid victims of crime Secure crime scenes Protect other officers and members of the public Beard grooming policy: officers may grow a beard no longer than one-half inch; tattoo policy: all candidates are prohibited from having tattoos or any other visible markings on faces or collarbones, with possible exceptions for hands and neck tattoos upon review and approval. Corrections Officer Starting Pay: $60,077; Top Pay: $94,345; Shift Differential Pay: 5%; Benefits include Nevada PERS Pension, No Social Security Deduction, No State Income Tax, Medical, Dental, Vision. Conduct routine patrol of the detention facility Enforce inmate rules and apply disciplinary actions Supervise inmates during meetings, recreation, mealtimes, visitations, and work assignments Assist with admission and discharge process Issue new inmate clothing and supplies Conduct visual and physical searches of inmates for contraband Prepare routine reports and complete logs Qualifications Experience: one year of work experience (does not have to be law enforcement); a Bachelor’s degree may substitute for the one year of work experience. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. License: Valid driver’s license at the time of application and maintenance thereafter. Age: At least 21 years of age at the time of job offer. Citizenship: United States citizen at the time of job offer. Special to this classification pursuant to NAC 289.110: No convictions of a felony in Nevada or any offense that would be considered a felony in Nevada; no convictions of any crime requiring registration or a misdemeanor domestic violence crime including use or attempted use of physical force; no conviction of unlawful use, sale, or possession of a controlled substance. Department Standards: No convictions in the past 12 months, including DUI. Drug use (including marijuana and steroids) may be disqualifying. Two or more alcohol-related incidents in the past 48 months is disqualifying. Suspensions, revocations or cancellations of driver's license within the last three years will be reviewed on an individual basis. Separation from any branch of the United States Armed Forces under less than "honorable" conditions, or separation honorably from the Armed Forces for reasons of unsuitability or misconduct is disqualifying. Any active warrant at the time of background interview is disqualifying. Decertification from any law enforcement agency is disqualifying. Termination for cause by another criminal justice agency is disqualifying. Any misrepresentations, either intentionally or unintentionally, will be grounds for disqualification.
