Job Summary Seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a Senior Staff Scientist position in a cancer research laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Medical University of South Carolina. Current work in the laboratory is centered on lipid metabolism related to hypoxia and drug resistance in prostate cancer. Design and implement in vitro experiments to assess lipid alterations that impact drug sensitivity, maintain meticulous laboratory records, and present results in individual and group meetings. Draft and publish results in leading scientific journals and collaborate with the PI on grant proposals. Perform in vivo experiments to assess drug efficacy and differential biology in prostate cancer, including orthotopic models of prostate cancer and bone metastasis. Conduct PK studies, urological surgeries in mice, and drug delivery modalities (intraperitoneal, oral gavage, retro‑orbital, tail‑vein injections), necropsy and tissue collection. Train and supervise technical staff, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other laboratory personnel. Mentor students, oversee equipment, develop written protocols, and advise junior members on experimental approaches. Handle laboratory management tasks: oversight of daily lab needs, activity, budgeting, maintaining reagent and cell line databases, and ordering supplies. Assist with development of research proposals for external funding from federal and private agencies, and present work at lab meetings, departmental retreats, national and international conferences. Qualifications Ph.D. with considerable experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology. Experience in utilizing in vivo models of prostate cancer and surgical techniques. Strong track record of publishing in high‑impact journals. History of training and oversight of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other research staff. Experience developing research proposals for external funding. Ability to present findings at scientific conferences. Eligible for employment in the U.S.; non‑tenure track position with renewal dependent on extramural funding availability. Salary commensurate with experience.
