We are partnering with a well‑established and growing commercial real estate organization seeking a Senior Property Accountant to support a portfolio of retail shopping centers and mixed‑use retail assets throughout the United States. This role requires a candidate with a strong retail real estate accounting background, including direct experience with shopping center accounting, tenant recoveries, CAM reconciliations, and retail lease structures. While general commercial real estate accounting experience is valuable, retail property accounting experience is required, as the successful candidate will be responsible for the complexities associated with retail operating expense recoveries and tenant billing. The position offers a highly visible opportunity to work closely with property management, asset management, and senior leadership while overseeing the full accounting cycle for a retail‑focused portfolio. Location: Manhattan, NY (Hybrid Schedule) Compensation: $120,000 – $140,000 Base Salary + Bonus + Comprehensive Benefits Responsibilities Maintain full general ledger accounting for a portfolio of retail shopping center assets. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting workpapers. Perform month‑end and year‑end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses. Calculate, reconcile, and bill CAM (Common Area Maintenance), real estate taxes, insurance, and other tenant recoveries. Prepare annual operating expense reconciliations and tenant settlement statements. Review retail lease agreements and ensure proper interpretation of lease terms, recovery structures, and escalation clauses. Partner with property managers and asset managers to analyze operating expenses and budget‑to‑actual variances. Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting processes. Support external auditors and tax professionals during audit and reporting cycles. Monitor tenant receivables, recoveries, and other property‑level accounting activities. Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and GAAP. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 4+ years of property accounting experience within commercial real estate. Must have direct experience accounting for retail shopping centers and retail real estate portfolios. Strong hands‑on experience calculating and reconciling CAM charges and other tenant recoveries. Thorough understanding of retail lease structures, operating expense recoveries, and annual reconciliations. Experience preparing financial statements for retail properties. Strong Excel skills and proficiency with real estate accounting systems such as Yardi, MRI, JD Edwards, or similar platforms. CPA designation is a plus but not required.
