Job description

Coordinator, Advanced Academics & LOTE (TEMPORARY)

The Coordinator of Advanced Academics will manage the district's K-12 advanced academic programs to meet the needs of students and families, ensure the integrity of the program and vision of the district, and ensure consistency of programming across the district. Programs managed by the coordinator include gifted and talented, honors, and Advanced Placement curriculum and instruction responsibilities. Additionally, oversee our LOTE program of coordinating exams, discussing course scope and sequence.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
  • A successful applicant should be able to produce documentation showing completion of initial 30-hours of GT training

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to gifted and talented, advanced academics, and College Board
  • Knowledge of Board policies, federal and state laws & regulations, student services, and operations
  • Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for assigned area
  • Knowledge of curriculum design, implementation, evaluation, and refinement
  • Knowledge of effective instruction and evaluation methodologies

Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities

Advanced Academics Administrative and Fiscal Functions

  • Serve as an instructional leader in the organization of effective K-12 advanced programming, including gifted and talented, honors, and Advanced Placement efforts.
  • Supervise the writing, editing, and revising of curriculum documents (i.e., Year-At-A-Glance and Required/Recommended Resources) to support the district's K-12 Advanced Academics instructional programs in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements. Keep in alignment with College Board and ACC.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop course syllabi aligned to State curriculum, College Board standards, and Texas Performance Standards Project.
  • Support teacher learning and mentor staff in the implementation of proven teaching methods for advanced academics, through planning, feedback, and coaching. Make the PD information more explicit for developing training procedures.
  • Manage the District's K-12 Gifted and Talented Plan in alignment with the State Gifted and Talented Plan.
  • Coordinates the timeline and execution of the Gifted and Talented identification process.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of teacher and administrator training requirements and completed sessions to meet requirements for all areas of advanced academics.
  • Keep up-to-date with and interpret to staff current research, curriculum development and instructional strategies related to Advanced Academics.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations for modification of existing District programs and implementation based on state/federal requirements and evidence-based practices.
  • Analyze data (PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP, GT) and evaluate research studies to support recommendations for the District's Advanced Academic programs and to provide assistance to improve student achievement.
  • Support teacher and administrator teams in meeting the advanced academic needs of students and provide strong instructional leadership for PSAT/SAT/ACT exams, Honors and AP (Advanced Placement) courses, and state assessments.
  • Collaborate with supervisor on data reporting, submissions, compliance reporting, annual evaluations, and presentations needed for Advanced Academics programming.
  • Support the refinement of curriculum development of Honors and AP courses to increase student achievement on Advanced Placement exams.
  • Coordinate student and campus supports such as summer bridge camps into Honors and AP courses, SAT/ACT tutoring sessions, and TSI preparation opportunities to increase College, Career, and Military readiness.
  • Assist in the preparation and administration of the budget for Advanced Academics.

LOTE Administrative and Fiscal Functions

  • Facilitate the development of LOTE curriculum documents (i.e., Year-At-A-Glance and Recommended/Required Resources) in conjunction with LOTE teacher teams.
  • Coordinate professional learning opportunities for LOTE teachers.
  • Coordinate language testing at middle schools for native speaker courses.
  • Assist campus principals with campus LOTE programming through planning and coordination of external training and coaching support as needed.

Organization Improvement

  • Support the mission and vision of the campus and District.
  • Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and work collaboratively to implement and improve programs.
  • Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with middle and high school feeder schools to strengthen vertical articulation and to create a seamless K-12 Advanced Academics instructional program.
  • Coordinate with secondary counselors during the spring student registration process regarding parent and student communication for Advanced Academic Programming.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in professional development activities to improve job-related skills that are aligned with campus and District needs.
  • Attend and participate in faculty and department meetings and serve on committees, as required.

Texas Academic Performance Indicators and Campus Performance Objectives

  • Analyze data to determine and address individual student needs.
  • Administer state-mandated testing at campuses in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Monitor and review campus test data and use findings to assist with planning corrective action for the affected group of students and/or campuses.

School/Community Relations

  • Maintain the Advanced Academics intranet and internet web pages.
  • Establish a parent advisory committee for Advanced Academic programs
  • Conduct annual Advanced Academic parent information sessions for elementary and secondary parents.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers as needed.
  • Interface with governmental agencies, business and civic organizations, and the community to provide needed information and to promote the District's initiatives.

Organization Morale

  • Foster positive morale by participating in team-building activities and the decision-making process.
  • Communicate and collaborate with campus/department staff to enhance service delivery, program development, and customer satisfaction.

Other Responsibilities

  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to the State Board of Education and local Board policy.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
