The Electrification and Automation (EA) division of Siemens Smart Infrastructure provides a full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for customers across all markets and channels. As an intern, you'll support reliable power distribution grids used today while gaining exposure to our Future Grids technologies that are helping shape the power systems of tomorrow.

We are seeking qualified candidates for our Protection & Automation Engineering Spring 2027 Internship beginning in January 2027. This program is based in Wendell, NC.

You'll make an impact by:

  • Rotating through Protection & Automation (PPA) teams, including Solutions Engineering, Solutions Offers, and Global Customer Care (GCC), to gain exposure to the full project lifecycle while supporting engineering, proposal development, and post-delivery activities.

Solutions Engineering & Design:

  • Assisting with configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of protection relays, RTUs, and HMIs.
  • Supporting engineering design processes by working with AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, signal lists, and communication network diagrams.
  • Using digital twin technology to simulate and test protection relay signals in a virtual environment.
  • Contributing to projects involving microgrids and renewable technologies, including photovoltaic and battery storage systems.

Solutions Offers & Global Customer Care (GCC):

  • Supporting the development of customer proposals by learning how technical scope translates into engineering effort, cost, and deliverables.
  • Assisting with post-delivery project support, including warranty, issue resolution, and customer case coordination.
  • Gaining hands-on experience with testing automation panels, supporting Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), and working in the Power & Automation laboratory.
  • Building familiarity with Siemens electrical equipment including switchgear, MCCs, breakers, transformers, and related systems.

You'll win us over by having the following qualifications:

  • Current student pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field. Candidates must graduate between May 2027 and December 2027.
  • Available to work part-time during the spring 2027 semester. Candidates graduating after spring 2027 will have the option to transition to a full-time internship (40 hours per week) during summer 2027.
  • Must be located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC, as this role does not provide housing or relocation support.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis.
  • On-site requirement will vary based on team placement, as will expected working hours.
