Bourke Street Bakery is seeking a reliable, hardworking Part-Time Porter to help maintain a clean, organized, and safe bakery environment. This role is essential to supporting both the production and retail teams by ensuring the bakery, storage areas, and outdoor spaces remain clean and well-maintained while assisting with deliveries and general facility upkeep.
Key ResponsibilitiesCleaning & Sanitation
Perform daily and scheduled deep cleaning of the bakery, production areas, storage rooms, walk-in coolers, and common areas.
Deep clean bakery equipment, shelving, floors, walls, drains, and other surfaces according to sanitation standards.
Maintain clean restrooms, break areas, and employee spaces.
Sweep, mop, scrub, and sanitize floors throughout the facility.
Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly.
Exterior Maintenance
Keep sidewalks, entrances, loading areas, and outdoor spaces clean and free of debris.
Sweep and wash exterior walkways as needed.
Maintain cleanliness around dumpsters and recycling areas.
Assist with seasonal outdoor maintenance, including snow removal, salting walkways, and leaf cleanup as required.
Receiving & Inventory Support
Receive incoming deliveries and verify shipments against packing slips.
Unload and organize deliveries in designated storage areas.
Rotate inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.
Notify management of damaged or missing items.
Warehouse & Organization
Break down cardboard boxes and prepare them for recycling.
Organize storage areas to maintain a safe and efficient workspace.
Restock cleaning supplies and notify management when supplies are running low.
Move ingredients, supplies, and equipment as needed throughout the bakery.
General Support
Assist production and retail teams with miscellaneous tasks as directed.
Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a team-oriented work environment.
Previous porter, janitorial, warehouse, or food production experience preferred but not required.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced bakery environment.
Strong attention to cleanliness and organization.
Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices is a plus.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, and carrying.
Ability to work in hot, cold, and wet environments.
Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and handle cleaning chemicals according to company procedures.
Part-time (approximately 20–30 hours per week)
Weekend and holiday availability may be required.
