Rotating Machinery Services (RMS Inc.) is seeking an experienced Babbitt Bearing Technician to join our Houston operations team. This position specializes in the production of industrial bearings used in turbomachinery and rotating equipment. The ideal candidate takes pride in precision craftsmanship, safety, and quality. SKILLS REQUIRED Exceptional ability to multitask and prioritize Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines Exceptional attention to details Display ownership and accountability for tasks and responsibilities Adaptable to changing schedules INTERPERSONAL - Experience Required Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work within a team EFFICENCY - Experience Preferred Ability to manage other projects and responsibilities that may be added at the company’s discretion Ability to operate lift trucks and pallet jacks Exceptional ability to manage time and resources effectively Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES Perform babbitting (lining and relining) of industrial bearings using tin- and lead-based alloys Prepare bearing shells by cleaning, tinning, and applying bonding agents Pour, centrifugally cast, or static cast babbitt material into prepared shells Machine, bore, and finish babbitted surfaces to tight tolerances using lathes and mills Inspect bearings for wear, cracks, bonding issues, and dimensional accuracy Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and work orders Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, calipers) Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and material usage Support troubleshooting and rebuild of large industrial bearings Perform basic maintenance and housekeeping of shop equipment Follow all safety and environmental procedures related to molten metals and machinery Notify Quality and Production leadership of any non-conforming conditions ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES The above list of activities is not all-inclusive but a general representation of the requirements of the RMS Babbitt Bearing Technician. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 5 years of experience in babbitting or industrial bearing repair REQUIRED EDUCATION High School Diploma or GED from accredited institution ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The position may be based in RMS’s South Houston, TX facility. This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings or weekends, may be required based on project needs. This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background checks. Must possess a valid driver’s license Ability to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol test, and background check. Ability to act professionally under stressful situations. Able to understand, read, write and speak English. Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. (with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance. Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals, including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel. Authorized to work in the United States RMS Inc. may have government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects. If an employee does not meet these requirements, they may be reassigned to a different location or be ineligible to work on certain assignments. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. While the work area may be described as generally clean, safe, and "not loud", there will be machining operations that generate moderate noise and metal particles.
