Job Description

We are recruiting for a position in the following locations:

  • Greeley
  • Fort Lupton
  • Del Camino

Testing may be required for applicants who are selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Motor Vehicle Specialists will perform a variety of clerical duties including answering phones and greeting the public which requires confidential, special terminology, and considerable exercise of independent judgment. This position provides support for motor vehicle operations by issuing registrations, titles, and permits, while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The role involves extensive public service, administrative support, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Technicians are responsible for accurate processing, maintaining records, and adhering to policies and confidentiality standards. Works under general supervision from the Clerk & Recorder, Chief Deputy, Deputy of Motor Vehicle and Motor Vehicle Manager, Office Technician IV, and Motor Vehicle Trainer.

Compliance

  • Examine all documents pertaining to ownership, license fees and sales tax, and for identification.
  • Collect fees as required by law and in accordance to statutory guidelines.
  • Issue permits, titles, registrations, handicap placards, and license plates as appropriate across many unique transactions involving complex requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy and enforce compliance with appropriate statutory regulations including but not limited to emissions standards, insurance requirements and secure and verifiable identification.
  • Research information on Motor Vehicle issues using various resources.
  • Perform VIN inspections.
  • Contact financial institutions or dealerships regarding customer paperwork; figure all sales tax due.
  • This position acts as an agent for the State of Colorado.

Customer Service

  • Work involves heavy public contact; assisting the public with general inquires, assisting in researching and resolving complex tax, title, registration related problems and processing required paperwork.
  • Assist the public by phone, through electronic media, and in writing regarding complex tax, title, registration related problems and processing required paperwork. Works to resolve complex transactions, utilizing negotiation and problem resolution skills with sensitivity to the voters' needs and expectations.
  • Serve as a liaison between Clerk & Recorder's Office; representatives of business and industry, trade and professional associations, and clients. Provides or disseminates information, both orally and in writing, regarding statutory changes and/or policy modifications.

Administrative Support

  • Process all incoming mail; review documents received for completeness and accuracy; prepare for data entry; process mortgage mail, renewals, and drop-off work received.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks as requested. Operate a variety of office equipment, communicate current and anticipated problems to superior.
  • Maintain assigned state inventory, files, and records required by the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicle.
  • Participate in opening and/or closing functions as directed; verify cash receipts, reconciling check, payport, and cash reports and running required accounting tapes. Resolve minor discrepancies when necessary, working to ensure that all monies collected are in balance.
  • Provide input regarding new projects, equipment evaluation, production and quality standards.

Election Support

  • Perform voter registration and marriage licenses and perform oath of honesty as needed.
  • Serve as a representative of the designated election official when required, fulfilling all roles and/or tasks as assigned. As directed, assist in other departments and/or with County-wide events.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

Required Qualifications

Required Education

  • High School Diploma/GED

Experience Qualifications

  • 3 years experience in an increasingly responsible position in an office setting.

Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures; working knowledge of title work and registration practices as required by the position; skill in operation of office equipment, including personal computer, state system, calculator, etc.
  • Ability to learn technical terminology; learn legal terminology as required by the position; to compose letters and materials using some exercise of independent judgment; to follow verbal and written instructions; to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, agencies and the public.
  • Will be required to work at any of the three motor vehicle branches, in any department of the Clerk and Recorder, and to work flexible hours, to include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Computer data entry, basic ten key, cash handling, public contact experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of newly enacted legislative bills regarding Motor Vehicle, tax regulations, and other federal, state, and local policies, laws, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of the principles of confidentiality related to the work assignment.
  • Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to employment start date.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver's License. Required

  • Pre-employment substance screening is required for this position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the screening in accordance with Weld County policy.

This position is non-exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay. As an applicant for this position, you should be aware of Senate Bill 19-085, the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The act requires employers to announce the pay range for job openings.
