The City of Bradenton Beach is seeking an experienced Building Official to lead the City's Building Department and oversee permitting, inspections, code enforcement, and floodplain compliance activities.
This department head position supervises the City's Code Enforcement Officer, Permit Clerk, and Permit Technician while ensuring compliance with all applicable building, zoning, land development, FEMA, accessibility, energy, and environmental regulations.
Job Summary
Under administrative direction, this position performs technical, supervisory, and administrative work related to plans review, inspections, code enforcement, permitting, and regulatory compliance. The Building Official is responsible for administering and enforcing local building and development codes while ensuring construction projects meet all applicable standards and requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the City's Building Department and supervise department staff
- Oversee permitting, licensing, inspections, and code enforcement activities
- Review construction plans and specifications for code compliance
- Conduct and supervise inspections of construction projects throughout the City
- Enforce building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, zoning, and land development codes
- Ensure compliance with FEMA requirements, floodplain regulations, accessibility standards, and energy codes
- Administer the City's code enforcement program
- Interpret construction plans, regulations, and applicable statutes
- Coordinate with contractors, developers, engineers, architects, and the public
- Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, architecture, engineering, construction-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of 10 years of experience as a building inspector, architect, engineer, building contractor, or related profession may be substituted
Florida Building Codes Administrator license required
Certified Floodplain Administrator certification required
Valid Florida Driver License required
Prior municipal Building Official experience preferred
