Who You Are:

The Allen Institute for AI (Ai2) is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. You'll own a broad range of accounting functions across multiple entities, from month-end close and general ledger reconciliation to grant accounting and compliance reporting. You bring solid GAAP knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing deadlines without losing accuracy.

You're comfortable working with limited day-to-day direction, communicating clearly with colleagues across the organization, and flagging issues before they become problems.

This is a Temporary role scheduled for 9 months.

Your Next Challenge:

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements; monitor and resolve book-to-bank differences.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and fixed asset schedule maintenance.
  • Assist with managing grant accounting, including allocations, billings, releases, drawdowns, and budget tracking; support grant and year-end audits.
  • Prepare compliance reporting for external parties, including city and WA state tax filings.
  • Assist with accounts payable, expense allocation, and monthly purchase card reporting, including coding and approval review.
  • Prepare reports for management financial analysis and support the yearly indirect cost calculation and 990 preparation.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and work with management to implement them.

What You'll Need:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, plus 4+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience with accounting software/systems.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with limited supervision, both written and oral.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently.

Preferred

  • Experience with Sage Intacct.
  • Experience managing and accounting for federal grants.
  • Experience working with 501c3 organizations.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel; general MS Office proficiency.
  • CPA or comparable certification.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • The ability to observe details at close range.
  • Can work under deadlines.
