Music and Activities Specialist - Day Habilitation Program

We have great opportunities for positive, motivated individuals to work in a day hab setting assisting adults diagnosed with intellectual/developmental disabilities in becoming self-sufficient and self-actualized.
In this role, you will provide a Music/Creative Arts program on a daily basis for the individuals we support and coordinate special events/activities. Plan and organize monthly programs of varied group activities which include music and other creative art modalities.
In this position, you will:
- Ensure implementation of program wide Music Specialty program. Lead music groups on a daily basis.
- Provide individual and/or small group music sessions as recommended.
- Ensure necessary and functional age-appropriate music, exercise and leisure skills equipment and supplies are purchased and available as needed within the budgetary guidelines and maintained in a condition which provides for maximum health and safety of the individuals we support
- Coordinate monthly special events and/or other program activities utilizing community resources.
- Accompany individuals we support on cultural/recreational/volunteer community participation outings as needed.
- Complete and ensure accurate and timely completion of daily notes and all other required paperwork.
- Work cooperatively with the Art Studio staff to discuss new creative arts programs and community activities and solicit input from program staff. Ensure follow-up and implementation of approved newly created activities.
- Provide room coverage, bus-duty and lunch coverage on a regularly scheduled basis..
We require:
- Bachelor’s degree and one year experience preferred, or an Associate’s degree and 3 years’ experience or High School Diploma and 5 years’ experience. Both degree and experience should be in the following areas: Music, Music therapy, Psychology, Special Education, or Human Services.
- Formal training/educational background in music or creative arts required or will consider work/volunteer experience in a music/creative arts program and demonstration of talent in this area.
- Experience working with the Developmentally Disabled preferred.
- Complete required trainings in SCIP (Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention) and CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) certification
- Clean valid NYS driver’s license.
