Ops Government Operations Consultant II - Fire Program Assistant

Salary: $22.00 - $24.00/hour

Position Overview and Responsibilities: The Fire Management Program Assistant provides statewide operational, technical and administrative support for the Florida Park Service Fire Management Program under the direction of the Division Fire Coordinator. This position assists with prescribed fire program coordination, training and qualification tracking, operational readiness, equipment purchasing and maintenance, data analysis and reporting, and interagency coordination to support safe and effective fire management operations statewide. Under the supervision of the Division Fire Coordinator, this position works closely with the Park Service district fire coordinators, burn teams, park staff, and partner agency staff including the Florida Forest Service. Responsibilities require knowledge of the principles and practices of prescribed fire, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to support multiple priorities in both office and field environments. This position is a 40 hr/week position and must report to the office at 3800 Commonwealth Blvd., Tallahassee, FL.

Fire Program Administration and Coordination Support Assist with daily administration and coordination of the statewide fire management program. Assist NRTS Database Manager with QA related to the tracking of fire program records, databases, qualification records, inventories, and operational reporting systems. Coordinate with NRTS Database Manager on the collection and tracking of prescribed fire accomplishments, wildfire response activities, mechanical treatments, and other operational metrics. Assist with preparation of reports, presentations, correspondence, program guidance, and standard operating procedures. Coordinate logistics for statewide meetings, training events, workshops, and operational exercises. Support annual planning, readiness tracking, resource prioritization, and statewide operational coordination.

Training and Readiness Support Work with NRTS Database Manager to track and maintain NWCG qualifications, refresher training, pack tests, burn qualifications, and other required certifications. Perform QA/QC for fire data to ensure qualification compliance and support operational readiness requirements. Assist Division Fire Coordinator and Fire Training Specialist with the coordination of training requests, travel arrangements, course attendance documentation, and operational support for fire personnel statewide.

Operational and Equipment Support Assist Division Fire Coordinator with the tracking and standardization of fire equipment, vehicles, radios, trailers, and supplies to support the Division's fire program. Work with Bureau and District fire staff to support procurement, inventory management, inspections, and replacement tracking of fire equipment. Assist Division Fire Coordinator with documentation and reporting of strike team mobilization and resource deployment during wildfire incidents. Assist Natural Resource Contract Managers and Bureau Administrative Assistant with technical and operational knowledge for the administration of contracts, agreements, purchase requests, invoices, and procurement records related to fire management operations and equipment. Assist the Division Fire Coordinator and natural resource project managers coordinate with vendors, contractors, partner agency staff, and park staff regarding fire management projects, including: fireline installation/improvement, fuel reduction, prescribed burning, equipment purchases and fire training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge Principles and practices of prescribed fire, wildfire, or emergency response management and the natural resources and communities of Florida. Standard office software, databases, and electronic reporting systems. Skills Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills. Skill in maintaining accurate records, tracking data, and preparing reports. Skill in operational coordination and support activities for a group of people including purchasing supplies and equipment, assigning tasks, reporting on progress, and travel coordination. Skill in coordinating logistics, meetings, travel, and training activities. Skill in the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) and GPS devices and software. Abilities Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, internal and external partners, contractors, and the public. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment. Ability to interpret and apply Department policies and operational procedures. Ability to work independently and support statewide fire management programs. Ability to travel statewide and occasionally work extended or flexible hours during training or operational periods.

Minimum Qualifications: Valid Driver's License Preferred Qualifications: Experience with prescribed fire operations, wildfire, emergency response, or natural resource management programs. At least 3 years of verifiable related experience in prescribed fire operations, wildfire, emergency response, or natural resource management programs. Post-secondary degrees may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees. Florida Certified Prescribed Burn Manager qualification or ability to obtain is preferred.
