Position title: Intern, Communications Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid) Reports to: Vice President, Communications Program Duration This internship spans the full 2026–2027 academic year and is divided into two sessions: Session I: September 22 – November 19, 2026 Session II: January 6 – April 8, 2027 Company background Managed Funds Association (MFA), based in Washington, D.C., New York City, Brussels, and London, represents the global alternative asset management industry. MFA’s mission is to advance the ability of alternative asset managers to raise capital, invest it, and generate returns for their beneficiaries. MFA advocates on behalf of its membership and convenes stakeholders to address global regulatory, operational, and business issues. MFA has more than 180 fund manager members, including traditional hedge funds, private credit funds, and hybrid funds, that employ a diverse set of investment strategies. Member firms help pension plans, university endowments, charitable foundations, and other institutional investors diversify their investments, manage risk, and generate attractive returns throughout the economic cycle. Essential responsibilities Monitor and report online news and social media for breaking stories and relevant commentary. Assist in writing and compiling research for MFA publications and website. Write, edit, and create pages on MFA’s website and social platforms. Provide coverage highlights of Congressional hearings, regulatory meetings and other events driving news about the financial industry. Work with the MFA Communications team to ensure all Association documents reflect the latest industry statistics and trends. Contribute to reports on relevant media issues related to the alternative investment industry. Assist with maintaining current and accurate press lists and communication archives. Collaborate with the Communications Manager on daily external affairs related tasks as needed. Develop and present a capstone intern research project. Qualifications and requirements Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. Communications, economics, public policy, and related programs are preferred. Able to commit to both sessions is preferred (Session I: September 22 – November 19, 2026, and Session II: January 6 – April 8, 2027) Available to work during MFA’s hybrid hours (9:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.), in the DC office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional remote work on Monday and Friday. Daily hours are flexible, but in-person attendance on T/W/Th is required . Experience with social media and digital platforms. Experience producing detail-oriented research projects. Experience or interest in the financial services industry. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a culture that values being a good teammate, communicator, and partner. Demonstrated ability to self-start, think ahead, problem solve, and engage proactively with high professionalism, reliability, and accountability. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
