Job description

Job Summary This position is for an Executive Director role for a UC‑wide initiative. The Eco‑Anxiety Initiative is a psychoeducational and community‑building project for UC students and faculty that operates across all 10 UC campuses, in person, vertically through virtual events, and through occasional in‑person retreats or summer institutes. The Initiative delivers credit‑bearing educational classes to undergraduates and conducts research projects to evaluate the impact of the class on student and faculty skills and mental health. The executive will apply extensive experience to manage and lead this complex, unprecedented project that impacts multiple campuses and fosters partnerships with community organizations. The role requires strong coalition‑building across all levels of the UC system, expertise in educational and health initiatives, and the ability to analyze complex, data‑driven situations. Department Summary The role is housed in the Center for Health and Community (CHC) of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The CHC is an interdisciplinary research center focused on health disparities across communities and creating better health for all subpopulations. The Eco‑Resilience Initiative is part of the CHC and the UC‑wide Center for Climate, Health and Equity (CCHE), which oversees educational, health, and policy initiatives to mitigate the negative impacts of extreme weather and climate change. Key Responsibilities 40% – Supervision and collaboration of projects across 10 campuses: manage complex project‑management processes for products and services with broad, multi‑institutional scope; provide guidance to internal and external personnel and lead cross‑campus enterprise‑level projects. 10% – Lead and organize multi‑institutional activities, identify and mitigate risks, facilitate innovative solutions, negotiate resources, and ensure projects meet schedule and budget constraints while engaging senior personnel from staff to deans and UCOP leaders. 40% – Teacher training and external dissemination of curriculum: maintain training of UC teachers, identify qualified instructors across UCs and outside institutions, lead dissemination of the course, develop timelines and programs for training, and oversee both digital and in‑person components. 10% – Assist the leadership team with grant writing. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related area and a minimum of five years of experience (or equivalent experience/training). Graduate degree in medical or health sciences (MD or PhD). Teaching experience in mindfulness and psychosocial resilience skills. Experience managing educational initiatives or networks in healthcare or mindfulness, with demonstrated ability to integrate critical information across disciplines. Advanced knowledge of climate‑resilience psychosocial education initiatives and their impact on organizational operations. Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks based on relevance. Strong written communication skills for research publications and grant writing, and ability to communicate effectively with executive‑level management. Experienced mentor and leader of professional teams. Project‑management certification from a reputable organization (e.g., PMP, CSM, or ACP) with a qualifying exam and/or quality‑assurance processes such as Six Sigma or Lean (or equivalent project‑management experience). Preferred Qualifications Graduate degree in medical or health sciences (MD or PhD). Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner to achieve significant results. Capacity to anticipate obstacles and plan contingencies when disseminating curriculum. Experience analyzing highly complex projects with broad institutional impact, and ability to manage project progress within time constraints. Certifications Project‑management certification (PMP, CSM, or ACP) with a qualifying exam and/or quality‑assurance processes such as Six Sigma or Lean (or equivalent experience) required. Equal Employment Opportunity The University of California is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, or other protected status under state or federal law. Salary Information The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
