BD Pyxis Lead / Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Location: Hybrid - Bellaire, TX

Length: 12-Month Contract

Our provider healthcare client in Texas is seeking BD Pyxis Lead/SME to serve as the organization's primary expert for the BD Pyxis medication management platform. This highly visible role will lead enterprise-wide optimization, support, upgrades, and strategic initiatives while partnering closely with Pharmacy, Clinical Operations, and IT leadership.

Position Overview

The BD Pyxis Lead/SME will provide technical leadership and strategic direction for our client's BD Pyxis ecosystem. This individual will be responsible for assessing the current environment, developing a sustainable long-term support model, leading upgrades and implementations, optimizing workflows, and ensuring the platform continues to meet operational, clinical, and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Pyxis expert who has successfully led enterprise-level support, optimization, and implementation initiatives within complex healthcare environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• BD Pyxis Leadership & AdministrationServe as the senior technical and functional expert for all BD Pyxis solutions.Provide advanced system administration, configuration, troubleshooting, and support.Lead architecture reviews and strategic planning for the Pyxis environment.Manage system integrations and ensure optimal platform performance.
• Optimization & Continuous ImprovementAssess the current state of the Pyxis platform and develop a long-term optimization roadmap.Identify opportunities to improve:Medication management workflowsUser adoptionOperational efficiencyMedication securityRegulatory complianceEstablish performance metrics, monitoring practices, and reporting capabilities.
• Project LeadershipLead Pyxis upgrades, enhancements, and expansion efforts.Support implementation initiatives, including new device deployments and facility expansions.Drive integration projects involving EHR, pharmacy, and related healthcare systems.Coordinate testing, validation, training, and go-live activities.
• Stakeholder & Vendor ManagementPartner closely with Pharmacy, Clinical Operations, and IT teams.Act as the primary liaison between Harris Health and BD support teams.Manage vendor relationships and facilitate issue resolution.Provide strategic recommendations to leadership regarding platform utilization and future enhancements.
• Documentation & Knowledge TransferDevelop operational procedures, governance models, and support documentation.Create escalation paths and best-practice guidelines.Mentor internal team members and establish knowledge-sharing processes.Strengthen long-term organizational support capabilities.

Required Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience supporting and administering BD Pyxis systems in a healthcare environment.
• Proven experience serving as a BD Pyxis Subject Matter Expert.
• Strong experience leading:Pyxis upgradesSystem optimization initiativesEnterprise implementationsSupport transformation efforts
• Deep understanding of:Medication management workflowsAutomated dispensing technologiesHealthcare operationsSystem integrationsChange management processes
• Experience developing support models, governance processes, and operational standards.
• Strong documentation skills with the ability to create technical and operational procedures.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and project leadership abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with CodoniX solutions.
• Knowledge of or experience with Epic Willow Inventory.
• Experience supporting multi-hospital or large integrated healthcare systems.
• Experience leading enterprise-wide assessments, optimization projects, or large-scale support initiatives.

• Enterprise BD Pyxis upgrades and optimization projects.
• Development of a long-term Pyxis support and governance strategy.
• Support of client's new pharmacy facility.
• BD device implementations associated with pharmacy and anesthesia operations.
• Potential future involvement in the technology planning and deployment for the new hospital scheduled to open in 2029.
