Job description

Overview THE ORGANIZATION The Center For Justice Innovation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing community safety and racial justice. Since 1996, we work alongside communities, courts, and those most directly affected by the justice system to build stronger, healthier, and more equitable neighborhoods. With a team of over 900 staff and an annual budget of $130million, the Center carries out its mission through three core strategies: Operating programs that pilot new ideas and address local challenges; Conducting original research to evaluate what works—and what doesn’t; Providing expert assistance and policy guidance to reformers across the country and beyond. Opportunity THE OPPORTUNITY Bronx Community Solutions (BCS) and Bronx HOPE (Heroin Overdose Prevention Education) are implementing a pre‑arraignment diversion program in partnership with the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, New York Police Department, Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, and several community‑based health providers. The program engages individuals between arrest and arraignment who receive a Desk Appearance Ticket (DAT) for possession of a controlled substance, offering harm‑reduction alternatives to conventional court proceedings that rely on jail. BCS is seeking a Peer Supervisor to oversee daily dispatch operations of the HOPE Program and to supervise a team of Peer Specialists. The Supervisor will assist with training, scheduling, and dispatch operations, manage individuals arrested for possession or use of controlled substances, and link them with appropriate services such as recovery support, harm‑reduction services, mental health care, crisis intervention, and more. Responsibilities Manage client cases using Salesforce to track services, document case notes, monitor outcomes, and maintain accurate records in a fast‑paced environment. Coordinate client intake, referrals, follow‑ups, and reporting while ensuring timely and accurate documentation. Conduct outreach and engagement for District Attorney referral cases, perform client assessments, and deliver prevention and recovery services through in‑person, telephone, and virtual support. Collaborate closely with NYPD and Peer Specialists to ensure response to precinct‑level arrests occurs at appropriate times. Provide dispatch coverage, including response to NYPD dispatch calls and engagement with potential HOPE participants at the precinct. Facilitate program referrals and assessments and manage the HOPE databases. Facilitate educational workshops in the community to spread overdose prevention education and facilitate ATI groups. Supervise and collaborate on the development of an initial action plan, including a thorough review of substance use‑related issues. Participate in hiring and staff development, in collaboration with the HOPE Program Manager, and provide orientation and job training for Peer Specialists. Develop Peer Specialist work schedules and determine leave or vacancy coverage plans, in collaboration with the Program Manager. Provide constructive feedback to Peer Specialists based on direct observation of service delivery and review of service documentation for continuous quality improvement. Offer on‑call supervisory coverage on a rotating basis and provide support to staff to address emergent or urgent issues they encounter in the field. Perform additional relevant tasks as needed. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of relevant experience; OR associate’s degree and at least two years of relevant experience in advocacy, outreach, self‑help, or recovery, plus one year of supervisory experience. • Experience with integrated substance abuse assessment and treatment, motivational interviewing, and stage‑wise treatment required. • CRPA (Certified Recovery Peer Advocate) preferred. • Knowledge of harm‑reduction principles and the ability to communicate accurately, empathically, and under time constraints. • Experience using Salesforce and Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook) preferred. • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some Saturday and evening hours, as needed. • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. • Driver’s license required. Position Details Type: Full‑time, with flexible hours and a rotating weekend schedule. Location: Bronx, NY. Shift examples: 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, 4:00 PM–12:00 AM, or 12:00 AM–8:00 AM. Compensation The hourly rate ranges from $34.34 to $39.56, or $62,500–$72,000 annually based on a 35‑hour work week, commensurate with experience. Benefits Comprehensive healthcare with a national network. Free basic dental coverage and vision insurance. Short‑term and long‑term disability, life insurance, and flexible spending accounts, including commuter FSA. Prioritization of mental health care (Talkspace, Ginger) through healthcare plans. 403(b) retirement plan with a 2:1 employer match up to 5%. EEO Statement The Center for Justice Innovation is an equal‑opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, national origin, age, military service eligibility, veteran status, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, or any other protected category. We strongly encourage and welcome applications from women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those with prior contact with the criminal justice system. We do not sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas; applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. All hires must verify identity and eligibility for work in the United States and complete required employment verification forms upon hire. Misrepresentation, falsification, or omission of material facts may result in disqualification, withdrawal of offer, or termination of employment. #J-18808-Ljbffr
