Gunny’s is building a community-focused, hospitality-driven neighborhood restaurant and bar where guests and team members feel genuinely welcomed, respected, and taken care of.
We are seeking an Assistant General Manager to support daily operations, uphold service standards, help develop team members, and assist leadership in building an efficient, profitable, and hospitality-centered restaurant.
The Assistant General Manager works closely with ownership and the General Manager to support front-of-house operations, team communication, guest experience, compliance, scheduling, service execution, and daily business needs. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong communication, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to lead by example in an active restaurant environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations Support the General Manager in overseeing daily restaurant operations.
Help ensure a consistently positive guest experience.
Maintain and improve service, hospitality, and operational standards.
Monitor daily performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, communication, and guest satisfaction.
Assist with implementing procedures that support smooth operations and accountability.
Respond to guest feedback, concerns, and service issues promptly and professionally.
Support the execution of events, activations, community initiatives, and special programming.
Maintain a visible leadership presence on the floor, behind the bar, and throughout service as needed.
Team Development and Leadership Support a professional, accountable, team-oriented work culture.
Lead, coach, and motivate front-of-house team members.
Help train team members on service standards, hospitality expectations, POS use, menu knowledge, alcohol service, guest recovery, and company policies.
Communicate clearly and professionally with team members, managers, ownership, vendors, and guests.
Promote strong communication between front-of-house, back-of-house, bar, and leadership teams.
Lead by example during service and assist in positions as needed.
Help identify training needs, performance concerns, and opportunities for team growth.
Administrative and Financial Support Assist with staff scheduling and labor management.
Help monitor labor needs, staffing levels, and shift coverage.
Assist with menu updates, ordering, inventory needs, and operational supplies as assigned.
Support marketing initiatives, guest engagement programs, and community outreach efforts as needed.
Assist with POS functions, reporting, guest notes, reservations, events, and daily administrative tasks.
Support ownership and management with projects related to operations, service, training, and business development.
Health, Safety, and Compliance Help ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, sanitation, employment, and liquor service requirements.
Maintain a safe, clean, and professional environment for guests and team members.
Support responsible alcohol service standards and guest safety.
Ensure team members follow company policies, food safety procedures, alcohol service rules, sanitation standards, and workplace conduct expectations.
Report safety concerns, maintenance issues, guest incidents, employee concerns, or compliance issues to management promptly.
Qualifications At least two years of previous restaurant management, hospitality management, or comparable leadership experience preferred.
Strong hospitality, guest service, and team-building skills.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently while supporting the larger team.
Experience with Toast POS or comparable restaurant POS systems preferred.
Strong attention to detail, consistency, and follow-through.
Ability to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, and high-volume service periods as needed.
BASSET certification required before handling alcohol or by the deadline set by company policy and applicable law.
Food safety or manager sanitation certification required as applicable by role, company policy, and law.
Physical Requirements
The role may require the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, move throughout the restaurant, use POS systems, communicate with guests and team members, lift and carry items as needed, and work in a setting that may include noise, stairs, wet floors, hot equipment, glassware, and other standard restaurant conditions.
