Manager, Maintenance & Facilities - Plastics CoE - 3rd Shift

Position Maintenance Manager – Plastics (3rd Shift) – Louisville, KY, USA Job Overview The Maintenance Manager – Plastics will provide technical support for the plant infrastructure (power, water, air, lighting, gas, etc.), manage projects related to electrical/mechanical support systems, building renovations, and other infrastructure items to support manufacturing activities. This role may also include manufacturing equipment support responsibilities and will lead a team of direct reports on an assigned work shift. Key Responsibilities Serve as the primary contact within the plant on 3rd shift to provide technical support and consultation on the plant infrastructure and facility support systems. Provide technical expertise on plant layout, connections into/out of the plant, and troubleshooting of facility operational issues. Own and facilitate effective utilization and operation of facility support systems and structure, including lighting, air compressors, electrical (incl. breaker maintenance), plumbing, vacuum pumps, sprinklers, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC, boilers, heaters, electric volts, process waste, drainage, dock doors, roof, fans, backup generator. Apply a strong injection molding background to troubleshoot and prove circuit work, perform basic hydraulic troubleshooting, and use the hydraulic bar chart and basic functions of a molding machine. Conduct reasonable root‑cause hypothesis for injection molding equipment failure and provide direction on corrective action. Supervise hourly bargaining unit maintenance staff by: Developing, interpreting, and implementing policies and procedures. Evaluating staff and making hiring and termination recommendations and addressing complaints in partnership with HR. Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal codes related to safe maintenance work practices as measured through internal department compliance audits and safety records. Coordinate all maintenance activities in the assigned area with other departments to ensure company goals are being met as measured by key performance indicators. Balance workloads and resources to achieve maximum results. Provide technical leadership to the team as needed on appropriate problem resolution. Assist in troubleshooting and downtime response – including electrical wiring, machine controls hardware/software, PLC and high/low voltage power distribution. Respond to emergencies as requested; coordinate activities with other responders; direct the work of staff and utilization of resources to make necessary repair in a cost‑effective and timely manner. Ensure that staff is trained in complex maintenance activities and follows standard operating procedures as measured by skill assessments and work order audits. Qualifications Prior relevant military service will be considered in relation to required/desired qualifications. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience (including military experience) plus graduation from an accredited senior high school or GED equivalent. 5+ years supporting operation and maintenance in a production facility. 2+ years minimum experience in a leadership role with direct reports. Ability to steer and influence a team of skilled maintenance employees. Working knowledge of software packages such as MS Office Suite (Project, Word, Excel) and Email. Familiarity with OSHA and EPA requirements related to maintenance. Sound verbal/ written communication skills. Proven team approach to management. Working knowledge of best practices involving mechanical and electrical design, PLC, maintenance, and repair fundamentals of automated industrial production equipment. Preferred Qualifications 5+ years supervising employees in a union environment. Previous experience with injection molding.
