Students may have challenges in their academic, language/communication, social, self-help, and behavior skill development. All students require intensive, highly specialized and individualized instruction and support to access learning. Program Description: Students in substantially separate programs support grade 9-12 and postgraduate (ages 18-22) students with intensive special education needs. Students require a small group learning environment with a low student to staff ratio. This position requires assisting teachers in the classroom with a wide range of student needs, both academic and behavioral. The individual must have the ability to collaborate with teachers regarding student progress academically and provide individualized instruction. Teaching and Learning: Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of special education and classroom teachers. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progress. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with staff and students. Flexibility to adjust to different issues with students. Ability to assist and help students with their academic and non-academic issues to enable them to fully participate in learning. Assist students in developing appropriate social skills. May require toileting.
