Custodian/Maintenance Worker
Under the supervision of the Maintenance & Operations Lead, the Custodian/Maintenance Worker is responsible for keeping school buildings and grounds clean, sanitary, and safe. Duties include cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas; vacuuming, mopping, emptying waste cans, and maintaining surfaces such as whiteboards, countertops, windows, and floors. Additional responsibilities include cleaning facility entrances, drinking fountains, handrails, and other high-traffic areas, as well as performing deep cleaning during school breaks, such as stripping and sealing floors, moving and arranging classroom furniture, and washing walls, windows, light fixtures, and blinds. The position may also involve light maintenance tasks such as painting, groundskeeping, equipment upkeep, replacing light bulbs and HVAC filters, and minor plumbing repairs. Employees may be required to report during off-hours or weekends for emergency snow and ice removal. The role requires the ability to perform moderately heavy physical labor, follow written schedules and directions, maintain cooperative working relationships, and work safely at heights. Successful candidates must obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of employment and pass DOJ fingerprint clearance and TB screening upon hire. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and engage in climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and other physical tasks as needed. Prior custodial or maintenance experience is preferred.
