Job Summary
A Plant Operations Technician - is considered a multi-disciplined technician with skill sets that include working knowledge of the purpose and function of plant equipment and processes, the ability to use essential tools, and basic mechanical and electrical maintenance skills. The Operator reports to the Operations Supervisor and can expect to be given directions by the Control Room Operator. The Operator conducts inspection rounds on equipment, records and adjusts parameters as needed, performs essential maintenance while on watch, applies and removes LOTO, acts as a fire watch and confined space hole watch when required, and performs additional tasks as assigned by the shift supervisor.
This position involves 12-hour rotating shifts, and the successful candidate is expected to work some nights, weekends, and holidays.
Job Functions
- Perform Operator duties; assist or take the lead in starting, operating, and stopping the plant and responding to abnormal and emergency conditions most effectively, complying with all safety and environmental requirements.
- Continuously monitor system and component conditions to determine plant and equipment performance.
- Operate all plant equipment to meet plant dispatch requirements and report issues or other anomalies of plant equipment and performance to the Control Room Operator, Maintenance, or Direct Manager.
- Perform emergency activities to maintain electric service and safeguard station equipment as required.
- Control all plant evolutions to ensure safe and effective conduct and compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Plan and lead the performance of basic mechanical maintenance duties such as predictive and preventative maintenance, replacing basic parts (filters, gaskets, etc.), adjusting valve packing, changing oil, and other minor maintenance tasks.
- Perform the tasks of opening, closing, racking, resetting, and routine maintenance on breakers.
- Provide direction and oversight to temporarily assigned personnel (including subcontractor personnel on plant operations and maintenance).
- Conduct basic troubleshooting and analysis on indication and control equipment.
- Perform facility water chemistry tests and control treatment chemicals within recommended limits. Repair and calibrate equipment as required.
- Collect and analyze trending information, provide recommendations on equipment performance, and forecast possible failures.
- Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams, and preventative/predictive maintenance records.
- Maintain assigned working locations in a neat and orderly condition.
- Complete other tasks as requested by the Operations Manager or Direct Report.
