MAFES Facilities Project Manager

The MAFES Facilities Project Manager is responsible for supporting the management and development of all land and building resources for the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES). The position will develop solutions to infrastructure needs, manage professional designers to develop planning and construction documents, and manage contractors to execute infrastructure improvements. This position coordinates with all MAFES unit leaders and reports directly to the Assistant Director of MAFES.

Salary Grade: 17

Anticipated Appointment Date: August 2026.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs and/or coordinates the work of Architects, Engineers, and Contractors for construction and renovation projects.
  • Assists administrators and users in identifying improvement needs, develops project programs, cost estimates, and project budgets.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for all off-campus capital projects. Includes contact with internal and external stakeholders, other university departments, end-users, etc.
  • Issues and manages RFP and RFQ processes for off-campus capital projects.
  • Works with the MAFES Office of Financial Management to track all funds and expenses related to capital improvement projects.
  • Prepares plans and cost estimates for renovations and infrastructure improvements.
  • Directs and/or coordinates the work of internal facilities personnel and/or external contractors as required for small construction and renovation projects.
  • Maintains and tracks all MAFES land, property, and building records, deeds, etc.
  • Works and coordinates with all relevant internal administrative offices including but not limited to: MSU Facilities Management, MSU Environmental Health and Safety, MSU Procurement and Contracts, MSU Property Control, MSU Office of General Counsel, MAFES Office of Financial Management, Research and Extension Center Offices.
  • When necessary, works and coordinates with all relevant external governing agencies including but not limited to: MS Institutions of Higher Learning, MS Bureau of Buildings, Grounds, and Real Property Management, MS State Fire Marshall, MS Department of Archives and History.
  • Other duties as assigned by MAFES Administration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, building construction science, or other related field.
  • Experience: Five years related to duties described.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional design registration (Civil Engineer or Architect).
  • Experience managing complex construction projects.
  • Experience designing metal buildings, research buildings, drainage systems, and/or roadways.
  • Experience in agricultural production.
  • Experience working with a Land Grant University and/or Experiment Station.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative working environment.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations, protocols, and/or procedures.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

Occasional and/or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards. Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; may involve conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis. Job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, climbing or balancing, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands. Job occasionally requires sitting, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to no more than 25 pounds. Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
