This role will involve developing, maintaining, enhancing, and supporting mission-critical IBM i (AS/400) applications while collaborating with modernization teams to integrate legacy systems with modern enterprise technologies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with AS/400 development, COBOL, RPG/RPGLE, DB2, SQL, IBM iSeries, and legacy application modernization, along with a passion for delivering reliable and scalable enterprise solutions.

The AS/400 COBOL Developer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting business-critical IBM i applications. The AS/400 COBOL Developer will work closely with cross-functional teams to maintain legacy applications, troubleshoot production issues, optimize database performance, and support modernization initiatives. The AS/400 COBOL Developer will contribute to application enhancements, system integration, and continuous improvement while ensuring high-quality software delivery. The AS/400 COBOL Developer will also participate in Agile development activities and provide technical expertise for enterprise applications. The AS/400 COBOL Developer plays a critical role in maintaining and modernizing the organization's IBM i platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and support business-critical AS/400 COBOL and RPG-based applications.
- Enhance legacy IBM i applications while supporting modernization initiatives.
- Design, develop, and maintain DB2 database structures and SQL queries.
- Create and maintain data models for IBM i applications.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL performance on the IBM iSeries platform.
- Debug and resolve complex batch processing and interactive application issues.
- Support business-critical production environments and perform issue resolution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and modernization teams to integrate AS/400 applications with distributed enterprise systems.
- Participate in continuous integration and deployment processes within the IBM i environment.
- Follow Agile development methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
- Prepare technical documentation and support system enhancements.
- Utilize Microsoft Office applications and standard business productivity tools as needed.
Required Skills
- 15+ years of overall experience in AS/400 / IBM i application development (preferred based on client requirement).
- Strong experience with AS/400 development.
- Extensive experience with COBOL400.
- Strong knowledge of RPG / RPGLE.
- Strong experience with DB2 databases.
- Advanced SQL development and performance tuning.
- IBM iSeries platform expertise.
- Batch processing and interactive application troubleshooting.
- Legacy application support and maintenance.
- System integration with modern distributed applications.
- Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) experience within IBM i environments.
