CPW Hatchery Technician V/Hatchery Manager - (Bellvue-Watson Fish Hatchery).

Overview The Colorado Department of Natural Resources invites applicants for the position of Hatchery Manager at the Bellvue‑Watson Hatchery. The posting is open to current and non‑current residents of the State of Colorado; applicants who are selected must establish residency in Colorado. The Hatchery Manager will oversee day‑to‑day operations, staff supervision, fish culture activities, and safety and security for the facility. Responsibilities Oversee and manage a team of one TechnicianIV and four TechnicianIII staff. Direct, guide, and evaluate daily hatchery operations, including feeding, sorting, stocking, and water quality monitoring. Plan, develop, and monitor capital construction and maintenance projects, budgets, and staffing schedules. Coordinate fish production plans, spawn, hatch, rear, and distribute cold‑water and native species to meet state goals. Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures, safety and security plans, and emergency response protocols. Monitor water chemistry and flow, adjust treatments, and maintain compliance with federal and state regulations. Manage procurement of supplies, equipment, and hazardous materials while maintaining accurate records and reports. Represent the hatchery in meetings with state, federal, and public stakeholders, and conduct interpretive tours and educational outreach to visitors. At least one year of experience propagating and rearing sport fish and/or native species. Appropriate education in fishery science, fisheries biology, fisheries management, or biology will substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Preferred Qualifications Current or former state employment experience relevant to this position. Demonstrated management and leadership experience in a professional environment. Strong written and oral communication skills. Decisiveness and vision aligned with team goals. Required Competencies Excellent organizational and time‑management skills. Valid State of Colorado driver’s license within 90 days of relocation. Resilience, adaptability, empowerment, inspiration, integrity, empathy, communication, and accountability. Conditions of Employment Maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license if operating a state vehicle; obtain one within 90 days of relocation for out‑of‑state applicants. Potential on‑call duty and requirement to live in state‑provided housing, including after‑hours security, monitoring, and emergency response. Ability to perform physical tasks up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, or 20 lbs constantly. Willingness to work in weather, noise, and hazardous conditions per job duties.
