Job Description PRIMARY FUNCTION Under general supervision, plans school bus routes and maintains information concerning routes and stops locations for regular education students and for special education/needs students. The work of this position also involves maintaining data in the computer assisted routing software to include routes, equipment, employee and student information; taking corrective action on bus routes and seeking assistance from the Lead Router for special circumstances. REPORTS TO Executive Director, Support Services SALARY SCHEDULE 107 REQUIREMENTS Education Level: A GED or a standard high school diploma from a GaDOE-approved and accredited institution is required. Preferred: Additional specialized/technical training in computer technology and data entry Associates degree. Experience, Skill, and Certification Valid Georgia's Driver's License At least 1 year of experience in pupil transportation routing/scheduling Demonstratable skill with Microsoft Office software and general office procedures Working knowledge of the local street and road system Effective oral and written communications skills; customer service skills; effectiveness in difussing stressful situations; ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interuptions Ability to use school bus routing software, web page technology and other relevant computer applications Ability to prioritize assignments; manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain confidentiality Ability to establish and maintain accurate and organized records and compile reports Preferred Work experience with transportation of students Work experience with transportation of people with special needs Knowledge of federal and state laws, and regulations related to student transportation Knowledge of roadways and communities in Chatham County Through knowledge of state and local laws, regulations, and guidelines regarding bus routes, stops, and driver requirements Thorough knowledge of traffic laws, regulations, and hazards and related safety precautions ESSENTIAL DUTIES Develops safe and efficient bus routes for students within the framework of Board of Education policies and procedures, using computerized Geographic information System (GIS) based routing software. Monitors student load counts on buses. Assists with the coordination of the collection of student transportation information. Receives written, telephonic, and electronic requests from parents, school staff, and District staff related to establishment or change in bus routes and bus stops. Reviews requests for changes to bus stops and performs physical inspection of location. Receives notices from parents requesting bus transportation for their student(s); investigates and analyzes walkway and crosswalk conditions. Provides information to drivers of transportation vehicles through dispatch and shop. Generates reports as necessary. Creates and maintains weekly reports to track duties performed, students serviced and performance measures. Provides information for use in budget development, state reports, billing and dispatch. Maintains and updates school system bus routes and routing information. Publishes hard-copy routes and routing information; correcting and updating time schedules and route maps. Takes appropriate action to resolve transportation concerns, including resolving emergency transportation issues in an effective manner. Validates route schedules; verifies drivers are performing routes as assigned. Assesses effectiveness of routes and schedules to deliver and return students. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Incumbents will be considered "at will." Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 250 days. Grade 107.
