Job description

About the job:

The Regional Account Manager (RAM) position is within our Rare Hematology and Nephrology Franchise, a division of Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease and will focus on the launch of IgAN as a potential new indication. The RAM will be assigned a sales territory focused on academic centers, community hospital systems, physician clinics, infusion centers, and other strategic sites of care, focused on nephrology. This individual would be responsible for the growth and expansion of the IgAN indication while supporting appropriate assigned indication opportunities with key nephrology customers.

Why Join Us?
At Alexion, we’re united by a shared purpose: to transform the lives of people affected by rare diseases. In Neurology, that purpose is personal. We connect deeply with patients and their care teams, and we work together to deliver innovative therapies that make a real difference. Here, your work means more—more impact, more growth, and more connection.

What You’ll Do
As a Regional Account Manager – Rare Nephrology, you’ll build trusted relationships with healthcare professionals across your territory. You’ll represent Alexion’s nephrology indications, helping providers understand our therapies and how they support patients with rare nephrological conditions.

Territory Includes: Boston, Quincy, Framingham, Brockton, MA. Must live within the geography.

You will:

  • Consistently achieve or exceed sales objectives in assigned territory
  • Create and maintain strategically targeted account-specific business plans that reflect an in-depth understanding of local market forces impacting product sales, diagnostic pathways, referral patterns, and treatment adoption.
  • Develop and maintain strong, in-depth clinical, technical, and scientific knowledge across assigned indications, with emphasis on renal disease education and the needs of nephrology customers.
  • Demonstrate the ability to educate on the clinical approach to relevant disease states, leading to successful differential diagnosis, appropriate testing, and timely treatment of focus patient populations.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with nephrologists and other key stakeholders in academic centers, community hospital systems, physician clinics, infusion centers, and related sites of care.
  • Collaborate closely with internal cross-functional stakeholders, including peer RAM(s), TLL(s), SAL(s), MSL(s), FRM(s), PEM(s), Market Access, Diagnostics, and enterprise partners.
  • Handle customer questions and objections in a way that is consistent with product indications and sales training methodology, including the ability to compliantly triage inquiries to the appropriate partner.
  • Understand and demonstrate proper use of products to clinicians in hospital, clinic, and infusion center environments.
  • Lead the implementation of a patient-centric partnership model that includes physicians, their staff, patients, clinics, hospitals, and relevant care partners.
  • Effectively utilize CRM tools to manage territory priorities, track account engagement, document sales activities, and submit required reports accurately and on time; and adopt CRM AI-embedded tools to prioritize opportunities and optimize call execution
  • Effectively use AI-driven insights for territory planning, HCP targeting, and pre-call strategy; translate analytics into focused customer engagement and account action plans
  • Execute local promotional activities and programs for the assigned therapeutic areas.
  • Provide a high level of product expertise and customer service to all accounts.
  • Proactively interact with Alexion management to refine product and market initiatives based on field insights, access trends, and account needs.
  • Perform work in alignment with and adhering to Alexion’s Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and Alexion policies and procedures.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5 years pharmaceutical sales or equivalent experience (, Biotech or Medical Device), or 5 years of experience in a medical setting.
  • Proven, documented track record for delivering consistent, top-tier sales results in institutions, hospital systems, and/or complex specialty markets.
  • Ability to work independently as well as interdependently in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong clinical acumen, account-based selling, analytical, and strategic skills to successfully develop accounts.
  • Demonstrated ability to seek out and qualify leads, profile new accounts, and build durable relationships with relevant healthcare providers and office staff.
  • Ability to gain consistent access and develop strong, professional relationships for scientific exchange and promotion with healthcare providers in community and academic settings.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational abilities.
  • Must live in the geographic territory or live within 50 miles of the geographic territory border.
  • Ability to travel within territory on a regular basis, which may include frequent overnight and weekend travel.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in a field environment. As is typical of a field-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation, to travel by public transportation, automobile, train, or plane; work comfortably in a clinical setting; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; problem solve; engage in complex and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; and maintain general availability during standard business hours.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced or master’s degree.
  • 5 years pharmaceutical sales or equivalent experience in specialty, rare disease, nephrology, or related markets.
  • Sales experience in the orphan or ultra-orphan area.
  • Bio/pharma, nephrology, renal disease, and/or hematology experience.
