Essentials Functions
- Create long and short-term goals for adult and academic learning that support strategic goals of the department and Vizcaya under the guidance of department Director.
- Develop and implement a variety of formal and informal visitor studies and manage formal and informal evaluation tools for ongoing assessments to inform visitor needs and impact.
- Participate in Vizcaya-led external community advisory committees to strengthen relationships, build trust, and guide Vizcaya’s work.
- Stay current with educational practices and scholarship; represent the museum at public forums, including public talks and other presentations.
Volunteer Guides & Greeters Corps
Provide day-to-day supervision and management of the department’s Volunteer Guides and Greeters and guided experiences, including extensive time in public areas with volunteers and visitors, with evening and weekend work required.Maintain and support volunteer corps morale and retention of same through recognition and specialized social and educational events.Create, revise, implement and facilitate training sessions for both new and continuing Guides and Greeters.Provide ongoing and routine coaching and implementation of performance evaluation structure for Volunteer Guides and Greeters.Build and transition training resources for volunteer Guides and Greeters online using new learning management system.Collaborate with Volunteer Mentors and Vizcaya colleagues to advance volunteerism goals through shared planning, communication, and program support.Work with the Cordeiro Volunteer & Internship Manager to develop and launch a new category of volunteers for community programs and farmer’s market in the Community Partnerships, Programs, and Interpretation Department.Academic Programs : College & University Audiences
Manage academic programs, foster academic partnerships, and select community programs.Lead and coordinate the annual Contemporary Arts Program (CAP) Lab program and the associated community program.Tours & Interpretation
Manage content development and operations for all general and specialized interpretive tours and facilitated tour experiences for adult and family audiences.Collaborate with the Technology & Digital Initiatives Department to manage content and operations for digital interpretive tours and tour experiences.Monitor tour performance and data, review impact against outcomes.Manage business plans for Public Tours and Behind-The-Scenes tours.Conduct tours for college and adult groups, especially select VIP groups, and the public throughout the campus as needed.Requirements

Position Requirements
At least 5 years of work experience as a museum educator including at least 2 years of supervisory experience.Bachelor’s degree in art history, Humanities, or related field.Deep and current knowledge of museum education and adult learning theories and practices.Demonstrated leadership, teambuilding, communications, project management, and fiscal management skills.Positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, flexibility and commitment to collaboration, customer service, strategy, and innovation.English fluency.Proficiency with Microsoft Office.Factors Vizcaya Will Consider When Evaluating Applicants and Determining Compensation
Additional relevant work experience, training, and education.Spanish, Haitian Creole and other language skills.Compensation
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens offer competitive compensation with generous paid leave, retirement benefits, and robust medical and other insurance for full-time employees. Salary will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and skills. The anticipated compensation is approximately $63,900 for someone meeting the requirements of the position to approximately $71,000 for someone exceeding them.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
Majority of the work is done in an office setting, with some portion involving interaction with the public, community members, partners, donors, vendors, contractors, and other constituents on and off site. Vizcaya is a non-smoking environment.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work / Schedule
This is a full‑time (40 hours per week), exempt position. Periodic evening and weekend work is required. The base schedule for this position is Monday–Friday. Vizcaya is open six days per week Wednesday–Monday and open most holidays except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. This position works onsite for at least the first 60 days. After the onboarding period, a hybrid schedule (up to 3 days / week remote) is permitted in accordance with Vizcaya’s Regular and Hybrid Work Policy.
