Safety Ambassador Lead

The Safety Ambassador provides hands-on field leadership for autonomous delivery operations, ensuring operational excellence, strict adherence to safety and regulatory requirements, and consistent execution of standard operating procedures. This role acts as the primary escalation point and on-the-ground coach for Safety Ambassadors, coordinating daily deployments, resolving incidents, and driving continuous improvement in safety and performance across the operation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and support Safety Ambassadors in day-to-day field operations, acting as a player-coach who actively participates in field activities while providing guidance.
  • Ensure full compliance with operational, safety, and regulatory procedures, including adherence to Level 1/2/3 standard operating procedures for incident response.
  • Coordinate daily deployment plans, including staffing coverage, route assignment, and route execution to support autonomous delivery operations.
  • Verify fleet, vehicle, and equipment readiness before deployment, including basic checks of autonomous systems, controllers, and supporting devices.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for incidents, operational disruptions, and safety concerns, ensuring timely response and appropriate documentation.
  • Conduct routine safety observations in the field, reinforce best practices, and provide real-time coaching to address unsafe behaviors or process gaps.
  • Support onboarding, training, and certification activities for new and existing Safety Ambassadors, including field mentoring and skills assessments.
  • Track operational performance metrics, compile field reports, and communicate trends, risks, and improvement opportunities to leadership.
  • Drive process improvements by partnering with operations and technical teams to refine procedures, tools, and workflows for autonomous delivery operations.
  • Communicate field updates, risks, resource needs, and equipment issues to management in a clear and timely manner.
  • Support incident readiness by ensuring team members understand escalation paths, reporting requirements, and emergency protocols.
  • Participate in and support the evaluation process for Safety Ambassador candidates, including physical readiness, situational judgment, technical orientation, and communication assessments.
  • Maintain professionalism during public interactions, including responding to inquiries, supporting de-escalation efforts, and appropriately handling potential media encounters.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in field operations, logistics, transportation, robotics, or safety-related environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience, preferably in operations or safety-focused roles.
  • Player-coach leadership style, with the ability to lead by example while actively participating in field work.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey instructions, feedback, and operational updates.
  • Coaching and mentoring skills to support the development and performance of Safety Ambassadors.
  • Conflict-resolution skills to manage field disputes, public interactions, and operational tensions effectively.
  • Comfort with mobile devices, including smartphones or tablets, for data logging, reporting, and communication.
  • Basic controller operation skills related to autonomous or robotic systems, or similar equipment.
  • Ability to follow structured data logging procedures and maintain accurate operational records.
  • Physical readiness to perform 7+ hours of active outdoor field escort duties across varied terrain.
  • Strong situational judgment and decision-making skills in incident response scenarios aligned to defined SOP classifications.
  • Professional communication and public interaction capabilities, including handling inquiries, de-escalation situations, and potential media interactions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in safety-sensitive operations, such as military, transportation, or industrial environments.
  • Experience in technician roles, including technician, electrical technician, mechanical technician, robotics, or avionics.
  • Experience working with consumer electronics, autonomous systems, or related technology.
  • Project management or coordination experience within operations, logistics, or transportation environments.
  • Supervision experience overseeing field teams, shift operations, or distributed workforces.
  • Prior service in structured, mission-driven environments such as military or similar organizations (e.g., Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard) is highly relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with autonomous delivery, robotics, or advanced mobility systems is beneficial.
  • Ability to thrive in a short-term project environment with potential for extension, including adapting quickly to evolving processes and technologies.
