Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for elderly clients to identify their unique emotional and psychological needs.
  • Provide individual and group therapy sessions, addressing a range of challenges associated with aging, including grief, loss, cognitive decline, and major life changes.
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to create personalized, holistic care plans that reflect the goals and needs of each client.
  • Engage with families and caregivers, offering education on effective strategies and interventions to support seniors in enhancing their mental and emotional well-being.
  • Facilitate grief counseling sessions, comforting clients and their families as they navigate the complexities of end-of-life issues and loss.
  • Implement cognitive stimulation and therapeutic programs designed to encourage cognitive engagement and emotional resilience in elderly individuals.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Your primary focus will be on elderly clients dealing with a variety of mental health issues. This demographic often faces complex emotional challenges associated with aging, including loss of loved ones, transitions into assisted living, chronic health concerns, and decreasing independence. With understanding and compassion at the forefront of our approach, you will provide critical support that not only aids their mental health but also improves their overall quality of life.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution.
  • A valid Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) credential in the state of New York.
  • Minimum of four years of recent experience in geriatric mental health counseling and support.
  • Proven ability to design and implement evidence-based interventions focused on elderly populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills tailored for effective interaction with seniors and their families.
  • Strong understanding of ethical standards and legal considerations in geriatric mental health practices.

Preferred Experience

  • Additional training or specialization in geriatric mental health or related fields.
  • Experience developing and leading mental health improvement programs tailored for older adults.
  • Familiarity with collaborative care models, integrating services across healthcare disciplines for comprehensive support.
  • Ability to utilize telehealth tools effectively for remote counseling.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a competitive annual salary ranging from USD 65,000 to 95,000, reflecting your experience and contributions. Additionally, successful candidates may receive a sign-on bonus. Our employee-centered benefits package includes:
