HVAC and Electrical InstructorInitial application review will begin October 7, 2026. Applications received on or before this date will receive priority review and consideration. Anticipated start date: January 2027.The Instructor is responsible for the design, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of instruction in HVAC and electrical programs across classroom, laboratory, and work-based learning environments, with hybrid and online instruction as assigned. The Instructor will teach HVAC courses to high school students at Bertie High School and electrical courses at MCC's Bertie Campus. Responsibilities include developing and updating curriculum; preparing lesson plans, syllabi, instructional materials, assessments, and laboratory activities; utilizing industry-relevant equipment and technologies; and supporting student success through advising, mentoring, and workforce preparation. The Instructor collaborates with secondary school partners, college personnel, and industry stakeholders to support student achievement, career pathways, and workforce development initiatives while ensuring compliance with North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) standards, Martin Community College (MCC) policies and procedures, and applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements. Instructional assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and online courses and require effective use of instructional technology, student assessment practices, and learning management systems.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstruction and CurriculumProvide classroom and laboratory instruction in HVAC courses to high school students at Bertie High School and Electrical courses at the Bertie Campus.Prepare course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, instructional materials, laboratory activities, and schedules that align with approved curriculum standards, departmental guidelines, student learning outcomes, and workforce needs.Utilize instructional technology, industry-standard equipment, and a variety of instructional methods to enhance learning and support diverse learning styles, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities.Maintain course content, gradebooks, and instructional materials within the College's learning management system (LMS).Participate in curriculum development, review, assessment, program evaluation, and continuous improvement activities for HVAC and Electrical programs.Assess the relevance and impact of lesson content and teaching methods; revise and improve lesson design and instructional strategies based on assessment data, student performance, and program needs; evaluate and select textbooks and other course materials; and request resources for the Library.Maintain a safe and effective learning environment while ensuring compliance with all applicable safety standards and procedures related to HVAC and Electrical instruction.Assessment and Student SupportDevelop, administer, and grade assignments, projects, and assessments that evaluate student competencies and learning outcomes using fair, consistent, and transparent grading practices.Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, performance, progress, certifications, and program outcomes using College-approved systems and in accordance with institutional and accreditation requirements.Serve as an advisor and mentor to students, providing academic guidance, career counseling, instructional support, and preparation for postsecondary education, employment, transfer, and continuing education opportunities.Work collaboratively with Disability Services to implement approved accommodations.Address student concerns professionally, serve as a liaison between students and administration, and report unresolved issues or classroom incidents to the appropriate supervisor.Program Partnerships and Student EngagementCoordinate with Bertie High School administrators, counselors, and faculty to support dual enrollment, career and technical education initiatives, and student success.Participate in advisory committee activities and maintain relationships with business and industry partners to ensure program relevance and alignment with workforce demands.Assist with student recruitment, outreach, retention, and placement efforts for HVAC and Electrical programs.Plan, oversee, and participate in instructional field trips and experiential learning activities, as appropriate.Administrative and Institutional ResponsibilitiesSubmit required reports, including attendance, grades, FTE, and progress reports, in a timely manner; prepare, compile, and distribute reports, correspondence, and other instructional or administrative documentation.Communicate effectively with students, supervisors, colleagues, and partners using College-approved communication methods.Maintain regular office hours in accordance with departmental expectations.Participate in pre-registration, registration, and other enrollment-related activities.Request, order, and manage instructional supplies and materials in accordance with departmental procedures.Provide instructional coverage for other instructors as needed and appropriate.Professional and Institutional ExpectationsServe on college committees and attend required faculty meetings, professional development activities, graduation ceremonies, and other institutional functions.Stay current in HVAC and Electrical practices, trends, research, industry technologies, and instructional best practices.Complete required institutional training, including FERPA, Title IX, and Campus Safety, and professional development assigned by the Division Chair, accreditation or regulatory bodies, the Chief Academic Officer, and/or Human Resources.Participate in college committees, meetings, and recruitment activities as part of the required 40-hour work week, whether conducted on or off campus.Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the College's mission.Open Educational Resources and Affordable Educational ResourcesWhere applicable and appropriate to the instructional program, the instructor is expected to support the College's commitment to affordability and access by evaluating, selecting, developing, and implementing Open Educational Resources (OER) and/or Affordable Educational Resources (AER). This includes:Investigating and utilizing OER/AER materials that align with approved curriculum standards and student learning outcomes.Collaborating with academic leadership and library services, as appropriate, to identify high-quality, accessible instructional resources.Ensuring that the use of OER/AER materials maintains academic rigor, instructional quality, and compliance with accreditation and program requirements.In programs or courses where OER/AER materials are not feasible, available, or appropriate due to licensure, accreditation, or curricular constraints, instructors may utilize traditional textbooks or publisher-supported resources in accordance with departmental guidelines.Work Schedule Instructors are expected to maintain a regular work schedule consistent with instructional assignments, departmental needs, and institutional responsibilities. This position's assigned instructional locations include Bertie High School and MCC's Bertie Campus. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and online courses, and work hours may vary based on student support needs and other instructional or college-related obligations. Of the standard 40-hour workweek, instructors are required to be physically present at their assigned duty station or designated instructional locations for a minimum of 30 hours, with additional time at these locations required as duties and responsibilities warrant during the academic term. The remaining 10 hours may be completed at an assigned location or another approved location and are expected to be dedicated to instructional preparation and support activities, including:Developing and updating face-to-face, blended, hybrid, and/or online course materials, resources, and learning activities.Grading assignments and recording grades and attendance.Collaborating with colleagues, business and industry partners, local education agencies (LEAs), and instructors from other institutions.Engaging in activities that support high-quality, rigorous instruction and promote student success and completion.Education/Experience QualificationsRequired:Licensed electrician in North Carolina. Ability to instruct in the heating and air program.Five years' experience teaching at the college level with at least three (3) years teaching dual enrolled high school students.Additional Requirements/Supplemental InformationPossession of a valid driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle for College-related travel, as required.Ability to teach and support diverse student populations in classroom, laboratory, hybrid, and online settings.Ability and willingness to travel between Bertie High School and MCC's Bertie Campus, as well as other assigned instructional sites, based on instructional needs.Ability to maintain a work schedule consistent with the Bertie High School academic schedule and College operational needs, including occasional evenings and weekends as required.Ability to maintain eligibility to work in a K–12 public school setting and comply with applicable criminal background screening and school access requirements established by the Bertie school district.
