CNC Machinist – Lathe (Day Shift)Location: Dover, NH Reports To: Director of Operations Shift: Day ShiftQ, LLC is a New Hampshire-based leader in modern firearms design, engineering, and manufacturing. We are looking for a skilled and motivated CNC Machinist - Lathe (Day Shift) to join our manufacturing team in Dover, NH.Position SummaryThe CNC Machinist - Lathe is responsible for the setup, operation, programming, troubleshooting, and inspection of components manufactured on CNC lathes. This position requires strong machining knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to independently troubleshoot machining and setup issues.The CNC Machinist will work closely with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality to ensure parts are produced safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.Key ResponsibilitiesSet up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC lathes to manufacture precision components.Develop, edit, and maintain CNC programs as required using CAD/CAM software such as CamWorks, Mastercam, or similar.Set up and prove out new or revised programs to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and efficient production.Select appropriate tooling, inserts, workholding, cutting parameters, feeds, and speeds based on material and part geometry.Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and GD&T.Perform in-process and first-piece inspections using appropriate measuring equipment.Make machine offsets and program adjustments as necessary to maintain dimensional requirements.Identify and troubleshoot machining, tooling, setup, and quality issues.Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to resolve production and manufacturability issues.Maintain accurate documentation, including CNC programs, tooling information, and setup sheets.Assist with fixture and workholding selection or improvements to increase machining efficiency and repeatability.Monitor tooling condition and replace or adjust tooling as necessary.Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, efficiency, and reducing scrap.Move materials and components as needed to support production.Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.Follow all company safety procedures, work instructions, and quality requirements.Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required.3-5 years of CNC lathe setup, operation, programming, and troubleshooting experience.Proficiency with FANUC CNC controls.Experience with CAD/CAM software such as CamWorks, Mastercam, or equivalent.Strong understanding of GD&T and the ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.Experience using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection tools.Strong mechanical aptitude and machining troubleshooting skills.Ability to independently set up and operate CNC lathe equipment.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment.Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision components.Professional, self-motivated, dependable, and adaptable to changing production requirements.Strong commitment to workplace safety, organization, and quality.Preferred QualificationsExperience with multi-axis CNC lathes and/or mill-turn equipment.Experience with 4- or 5-axis CNC machining.Experience with DNC software and post-processing tools.Ability to program and operate CNC mills in addition to lathes.Familiarity with CMM inspection and measurement.Experience machining a variety of metals and materials in a precision manufacturing environment.Experience in a high-volume or advanced manufacturing environment.EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent required.Associate degree, machining certificate, or relevant technical certification preferred.Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentThis position requires standing for extended periods while operating CNC machinery, along with frequent walking, bending, reaching, and handling of tooling and components. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion.Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, coolants, metal chips, and varying temperatures.
