Gallery Curator

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in fine arts, art history, or museum studies is preferred
- Experience in a museum or gallery setting.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop, curate, and schedule exhibitions and exhibition-related events for each academic year.
- Determine community needs for the gallery program compatible with the mission of Brenau University and the galleries.
- Oversee the Collections Policy and the efforts of the Collections Committee for the acquisition of works for the university.
- Oversee any advisory committees that assist in the activities of the gallery.
- Work with the Arader Academic Coordinator to ensure the use of the Arader Natural History Art Collection for the education of our students and the campus community.
- Work with the Office of University Advancement to identify potential funding sources and assist with grant writing to help support the gallery program.
- Attend University, Trustee, and University Advancement events on behalf of the Gallery and Permanent Art Collection.
- Provide tours, lectures, and outreach programs to community members and the Brenau community.
- Propose, implement, and manage the gallery budget.
- Direct physical exhibition needs, including shipping and insurance arrangements, security, gallery maintenance, installation and de-installation of work, wall text, and lighting.
- Coordinate with the offices of Marketing and/or Communications for the design, production, and distribution of all gallery-related publicity materials: invitations, flyers, brochures, posters, catalogs, etc.
- Oversee gallery correspondence and exhibition inquiries and coordinate exhibition information for wall text, artist information, catalogs, etc.
- Direct the placement, storage/handling, and documentation of the Brenau University Permanent Art Collection and the Historic Clothing and Textiles Collections (in coordination with the Collections Manager).
- Work with academic departments on campus to facilitate student and faculty use of the Permanent Art Collection, including student research opportunities and Gallery guest lectures.
- Respond swiftly to directives related to campus art from the Office of the President.
- Serve as a Brenau University Liaison for the High Museum of Art affiliate agreement.
- Support and oversee the operations of the Docent Program, including conducting the docent training.
- Hire, train, and supervise Gallery Assistants and Work Study students.
- Enter, maintain, and update Brenau University Permanent Art Collection records in Artwork Archive.
- Maintain the webpages for the Gallery on the Brenau website.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision of University Advancement's Sr. Administrative Assistant and student employees.
Work Hours: Full-time. 37.5 hours per week. Generally, Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department. Nights/weekends as needed.
Appointment Length: 12 months, continuous
Environmental and Working Conditions/ Physical Demands and Aptitudes: 50% sedentary work, performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must have the ability to travel short distances, carry and lift art work up to 50 lbs, drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. 50% physical exertion. Job requires frequent use of ladders, power tools, and hand tools. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading, and editing.
Title IX Implications: Responsible employee Any employee who is not a confidential employee. Payroll Status: Salary-Exempt (paid bi-weekly)
Campus Designation: This is an on-site position based at the Historic Gainesville Campus located in Gainesville, Georgia.

Travel Requirements: Minimal local travel and operation of a university vehicle and/or one's own vehicle required. Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Georgia driver's license, and good driving record.

Special Requirements: Brenau University conducts various screenings to ensure a safe and secure environment. These checks are a condition of employment and may be performed at different times throughout employment. (1) Background Checks: All new hires must undergo a criminal background check. To maintain employment, individuals must have and maintain a favorable criminal history. The university may also conduct random background checks. Additional checks may be performed for certain roles. (2) Credit Checks: required for positions that handle university funds or credit cards or as otherwise required. (3) Motor Vehicle and Driving Checks: employees who operate a university vehicle or drive on university business must have a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) run as part of the new hire process or as the requirement to drive is added to job responsibilities. To be approved for university travel, employees must meet the following criteria: be at least 21 years old, have and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license, and have and maintain a good driving record. As a condition of employment, employees must report any arrest (within five days of its occurrence) to the Office of Human Resources, including traffic violations for those listed on our auto insurance policy. Disclosure of subsequent legal action (conviction, dismissal of charges, etc.) must also be reported to the Office of Human Resources. It will be evaluated considering continued employment with the immediate supervisor. (4) Drug Screening: pre-employment/post-offer drug screens and random drug screens are performed for certain sensitive positions. Random drug screens are also performed on those who travel regularly, or those who operate a university vehicle. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

Time-Off & Blackout Dates: Time-off requests and university blackout periods are managed through the direct supervisor and the ADP employee portal.
Licensure Requirements: Proof of any professional degree, license, or certification (collectively, "Credentials") required to competently perform the work for which the employee is hired must have been submitted at the time of application for the position. Discovery during the course of employee's employment that applicable Credentials have lapsed, been terminated, were misrepresented, or were falsified may result in immediate termination of employee's employment.
