DUTIES :

The purpose of this position is to assist in maintaining all equipment and facilities in optimum operating condition, and to repair or replace any inoperative equipment.

The employee will assist in performing maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of crafts and trades, i.e., plumbing, carpentry, painting and electrical repairs. Such assignments may include but not limited to :

Assist maintenance workers in performing general maintenance, repair and / or alterations to such items as : doors, floors, floor covering, walls, ceiling, windows, electrical switches, receptacles and light fixtures, commodes, wash basins and showers. Assists in performing repair of recreation / mess equipment and appliances and other related maintenance and / or custodial duties.

Assist in performance of simple plumbing repairs, replacing faucets or washes; repairing toilet flashing devices. Clearing clogged drains, and light maintenance on air conditioning units and intermediate maintenance on equipment in the facility.

May assist in the performance of minor electrical repairs to switches and boxes, and replace electric lights, fuses and fixtures.

Employee works under the direct supervision of the who grants leave and evaluates performance. Works assignments are received either orally or through work order requests. Completed work is checked by the supervisor.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

Minimum :

• Employee must have knowledge in general carpentry and painting, and a general working knowledge of the basic shop machines and their safe operating procedures. Must have some practical knowledge of the general trades involved in maintenance work. Must be familiar with basic tools and material required in making routine repairs to buildings and ground structures.
• May include light to moderate physical effort. While some work may require very little exertion, there will be times when moderately heavy work must be performed. Some work form ladders while using hand tools and / or portable power tools.
