Are you an experienced SSHO / Construction Safety Engineer looking for a dedicated, site-based safety role where safety is your sole responsibility and you will be trusted to keep a major aviation project running safely and smoothly?

On offer is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist civil contractor supporting high-profile airfield construction projects. This is a long-term contract (approx. 5 months W2) with the potential to move onto future projects, giving you steady work on complex sites where strong safety leadership is valued.

This well-established contractor delivers aviation infrastructure across the US and has secured a major project in Virginia. As a result of continued project demand, they are now looking to add an experienced safety professional to oversee compliance and support a strong on-site safety culture.

In this role you will conduct daily site inspections and hazard assessments, lead toolbox talks and inductions, manage safety documentation and reporting, investigate incidents/near misses, and monitor contractor and subcontractor safety performance in line with OSHA and project safety requirements.

This role would suit an SSHO / Safety Engineer looking for a clear remit, a respected contractor, and consistent contract work on aviation and heavy civil projects.

The Role:

• Dedicated on-site safety lead for an active airfield construction project in Virginia
• Daily inspections, hazard identification, risk mitigation and compliance oversight
• Toolbox talks, safety meetings, inductions, incident/near miss investigations
• Safety documentation, reporting and contractor/subcontractor performance monitoring
• Flexible shifts as required (nights/weekends) with travel/relocation on future projects

The Person:

• 5+ years’ experience as a full-time Construction Safety Engineer / SSHO (safety as sole responsibility)
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction hazard identification/risk assessment
• Airfield/aviation or heavy civil project experience (runways, paving, concrete, utilities) highly desirable
