Dimensional Quality Inspector – Precision Machining

A day in the life

You arrive on the floor, review the day’s build schedule, and pull the latest drawings and specs. The first machined part comes off the line—time for a first-piece inspection. Calipers, micrometers, gauges, and coordinate measuring equipment are at your station, ready to verify critical dimensions and features. You document the results, flag a minor variance, and partner with the CNC programmer and machine operator to correct it before full production proceeds. Throughout the shift, you cycle through in-process checks, perform final inspections, and keep quality records pristine and up to date. You watch quality trends, audit processes and finished goods, and recommend improvements that keep our output on target. And you wrap the day by leaving your work area clean, organized, and safe.

What you’ll do

• Inspect machined components and finished products for dimensional accuracy and quality.
• Use precision metrology: calipers, micrometers, gauges, and coordinate measuring equipment.
• Execute first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and detailed specifications.
• Record inspection outcomes and maintain complete quality documentation.
• Identify defects, nonconforming materials, and production issues.
• Assist with root cause analysis and support corrective actions.
• Ensure adherence to ISO requirements, customer standards, and internal procedures.
• Collaborate closely with machine operators, CNC programmers, and supervisors to resolve quality concerns.
• Conduct audits on production processes and finished goods.
• Monitor quality trends and propose process improvements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
