Job Title

This is a full-time, hourly position that reports to the Sr. Division Manager, or designee. The position performs responsible work related to the operation of a computerized scale and cash register for the collection of fees at a County Landfill and/or manual work and routine cashier and clerical duties inspecting materials arriving at the county Convenience Centers or County Landfill to determine proper disposal areas, disposal volumes, and disposal costs of loads, if any.

Essential Job Functions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Inspects all loads arriving for disposal.
• Computes charges on weight or volume basis. Measures vehicles to determine correct cubic yard volume.
• Keeps and maintains records of activities. Records total of vehicles, volumes, categories of refuse, and cash and charge transactions, or other data as assigned.
• Maintains area in and around scalehouse, including the used battery/waste oil area and the 20 cubic yards garbage box area, and/or the compactor box area.
• Operates computerized weigh station requiring basic understanding of micro-computer hardware.
• Provides information to the public by phone and in person regarding landfill rules and regulations, helps customers, and answers questions.
• Picks up litter around landfill as needed.
• Works on the working face of the landfill as needed.
• May be required to maintain recycle and waste oil sites throughout the County.
• Serves as Landfill Attendant at outlying sites.
• Operates tractor with mower attachment and riding lawn mowers or other small equipment as assigned.
• May be required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies or other related emergency duties.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Ability to make correct change.
• Ability to measure the capacity of a truck.
• Ability to accurately input computer data.
• Ability to keep and maintain clerical records.
• Ability to manually operate truck scale and compute charges.
• Ability to work with the public.
• Ability to perform manual labor such as mowing, weed eating, sweeping, and cleaning.
• Ability to operate light equipment.
• Ability to maintain and clean equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
• One (1) year of experience handling money or bookkeeping experience and one (1) year of experience working with the public.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS

• Ability to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT Must be able to provide own transportation to and from County work sites.

• Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
• Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
• Occasionally heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying.
• Walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and sitting.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

• Works inside and outside in various conditions such as rain, cold, noise, dust, smells, heavy traffic, etc.
• Works independently without continual supervision.

ANNUAL (VACATION) LEAVE All regular full-time employees assigned to a 37.50 work week will earn 90 hours to 150 hours, depending on classification and length of service. All regular full-time employees assigned to a 40 hour work week will earn 96 hours to 160 hours, depending on classification and length of service. Note: Leave accruals may differ for bargaining unit employees.

SICK LEAVE All regular full-time employees will earn sick leave at a rate of 13 days per year. Regular part time employees will accrue sick leave on a pro-rata basis. Note: Leave accruals may differ for bargaining unit employees.
