Job description

Scientist (T Cells/Flow Cytometry)

Russell Tobin is partnering with a leading biotechnology organization to identify a Scientist to support Discovery Biology research and binder screening for T-cell-based therapies. This role focuses on bench-level experimentation, non-viral T-cell engineering, and functional validation of therapeutic candidates.

Responsibilities

· Perform non-viral engineering of primary human T cells using mRNA or transposon-based DNA delivery systems and electroporation or nucleofection platforms.

· Monitor cell viability, recovery, and synthetic receptor expression following transfection.

· Maintain and expand primary human T cells and Jurkat cell lines using aseptic laboratory techniques.

· Execute high-throughput screening assays to evaluate binder affinity, specificity, potency, and functionality.

· Perform multi-color flow cytometry (FACS) to assess surface expression and phenotypic markers, analyzing results using FlowJo.

· Conduct T-cell activation and cytotoxicity assays using IncuCyte live-cell imaging or LDH-release methods.

· Perform cytokine profiling using ELISA, MSD, or Luminex platforms and assess T-cell proliferation using dyes such as CFSE.

· Record experimental procedures, raw data, and protocol deviations accurately in an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN).

· Analyze experimental results, troubleshoot assay workflows, and provide data-driven updates during weekly campaign meetings.

· Collaborate with Discovery Biology team members to advance binder screening and functional validation activities.

Requirements

· Bachelor's or Master's degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or a related biological science.

· Minimum 2 years of hands-on wet lab experience, preferably in an industry setting.

· Strong aseptic technique and experience isolating primary T cells from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs).

Expertise in flow cytometry acquisition and data analysis is required.

· Experience with primary T-cell culture, cell-based assays, and immunological functional testing.

· Familiarity with non-viral transfection methods, including electroporation or nucleofection, preferred.

· Experience with cytotoxicity assays, cytokine analysis, and T-cell proliferation assays preferred.

· Experience using liquid-handling robotics for high-throughput screening is a plus.

· Strong documentation, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work independently at the bench in a fast-paced drug discovery environment.

Additional Details:

  • Location model: On-site — San Diego, CA
  • Schedule: 1st shift, standard business hours
  • Position Type: 7–8-month contract with the possibility of extension
