Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

The role of the Behavior Services Unit Treatment Director is to administrate, direct and supervise the provision of mental health, substance abuse, sex offender, aggression management, and evaluation services to residents at the Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center (JCC) in order to promote their well-being and rehabilitation as well as reduce the likelihood of recidivism.

This position requires an advanced degree and licensure as a clinical psychologist, and in addition, may require advanced training or certification in a recognized specialty.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of adolescent development and psychopathology as evidenced by an advanced degree in psychology.

Considerable mental health treatment skills and experience.

The ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of professionals and others involved with the care and treatment of high risk adolescents.

The ability to work effectively as a team leader in an institutional environment.

Ability to direct and supervise staff under his / her supervision.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience providing mental health and crisis intervention services to adolescents, experience working with adolescents in an institutional setting and working with youth who have juvenile justice involvement;
  • Clinical and administrative supervision experience;

Certification as a sex offender treatment provider.
