Seeking a DEPUTY SECRETARY OF COMMERCE

Description : Under the direction of the Secretary of Commerce, the Deputy Secretary shall preform all duties necessary to ensure the smooth operations of the Department of Commerce and subordinate offices. The Deputy Secretary of Commerce will execute administrative policies, prepare correspondence and notices, provide operational management of Commerce Department and Programs, and support departmental initiatives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

• Assist in the development and implementation of program plans to achieve the policy development goals and objectives to the Nation.
• Coordinate the preparation of program progress evaluation and quarterly reports for all programs under the Department of Commerce.
• Conduct staff meetings
• Attend Executive level meetings when necessary.
• Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff members.
• Assign job duties and responsibilities when required to subordinate staff and maintain updated written position descriptions for staff members.
• Monitor and evaluate the progress of program assignments.
• Coordinate and conduct staff development programs.
• Enforce and ensure compliance with administrative and legislative policies.
• Responsible for motivation of employees, answering questions, helping resolve issues, and assisting whenever possible and / or appropriate, in personal matters.
• Promote positive public relations for the tribe, with the National Council, regional economic development partners, tribal citizens, and the general public.
• Provide support information to the administrative information system.
• Any and all other duties that are required.

Minimum Requirements :

Preferred Requirements : Master's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Public Policy and five (5) years of management experience.
