Position Overview
We’re seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our General Contracting team in New York City. This individual will play a key role in preconstruction and estimating for ground-up commercial projects, ensuring accurate budgets, competitive bids, and seamless coordination from concept through contract award.
The Senior Estimator will work closely with project executives, project managers, and clients to develop comprehensive cost strategies that support high-quality, profitable project delivery in NYC’s fast-paced construction market.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the estimating and preconstruction process for multiple ground-up and core & shell projects.
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs, cost analyses, and bid proposals across all trades and project phases.
- Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to clarify scopes, resolve discrepancies, and validate pricing.
- Manage and evaluate subcontractor bids, ensuring accuracy, coverage, and competitive pricing.
- Develop and maintain project budgets, value engineering options, and cost benchmarking throughout preconstruction.
- Prepare and present comprehensive bid packages and participate in contract negotiations.
- Provide cost feedback and constructability insight during design development and project planning.
- Support the development of company-wide estimating standards, templates, and databases to drive consistency and efficiency.
- Mentor junior estimators and support staff in technical and professional development.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum 5+ years of estimating experience with a General Contractor in NYC or similar urban environment.Strong background in ground-up commercial, core and shell, or institutional construction.Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.Deep understanding of trade scope, material costs, and NYC subcontractor market pricing.Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, and Microsoft Excel.Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Strong ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and bid documents.Familiarity with NYC building codes, DOB processes, and union trade structures preferred.
