Position Summary
The Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) provides direct therapeutic and rehabilitative services to individuals enrolled in Neighborhood Community Services outpatient, community-based, and day-treatment programs, including Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient (SAIOP), Partial Hospitalization (PHP), and Mental Health Skill-Building Services (MHSS). The QMHP supports individuals in achieving recovery goals, increasing independent living skills, and enhancing emotional and behavioral functioning through evidence-based interventions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Direct Service Delivery
- Provide individual, group, and family interventions in accordance with individualized service plans (ISPs).
- Deliver psychoeducation, coping-skills training, relapse-prevention strategies, and supportive counseling.
- Facilitate structured treatment activities focusing on life skills and emotional regulation.
- Conduct in-home and community-based visits for MHSS clients to develop and maintain independent living skills.
- Participate in crisis prevention, intervention, and stabilization efforts.
Assessment & Planning
Participate in treatment team meetingsDevelop and implement individualized service plans (ISPs) in collaboration with clients and multidisciplinary teams.Regularly review, update, and document progress toward treatment goals.Identify barriers to treatment and provide supportive interventions to promote engagement.Case Management & Coordination
Coordinate services with clinical team members, case managers, physicians, schools, and social service agencies.Link clients to appropriate community resources such as employment, housing, medical, or educational supports.Advocate for client needs and ensure continuity of care across service systems.Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely documentation in compliance with DBHDS, DMAS, and NCS policies.Complete progress notes, ISP updates, incident reports, and discharge summaries within required timeframes.Ensure all clinical documentation supports billing and audit compliance.Professional Development & Ethics
Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and agency standards.Participate in ongoing supervision, team meetings, and required trainings.Adhere to ethical and professional boundaries when engaging clients and families.Demonstrate cultural competence and trauma-informed care principles in all interactions.Qualifications
Education : Bachelors or Masters degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field.Experience : Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental health and / or substance use disorders.Licensure / Certification : Must meet Virginia DBHDS qualifications as a QMHP or QMHP-T.Other Requirements :Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
Successful completion of criminal background, CPS, and OIG registry checks.Strong written, verbal, and time-management skills.Core Competencies

Flexible schedule based on program and client needs, including evenings and weekends if required.Services provided in outpatient, residential, and community settings.Regular travel within service area may be required.
