The Community and Family Engagement supports the school culture by serving as the bridge between school and parents.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
General School Community and Family Engagement
- Educates teachers and staff on how to communicate and work effectively with parents as equal partners
- Serves as a school-based intermediary contact for concerns and comments made by parents and community members
- Expands opportunities for continued learning, voluntary community service and civic participation
- Plan, host, and / or collaborate with staff or partners to facilitate Family University sessions
- Develops community collaborations
- Promotes sharing of power with parents as decision-makers
- Supports student enrollment and recruitment efforts
- At least 50 hours documented hours a semester of NPU, board meetings and community engagement events
- Loop school staff into key community meetings as needed
- Give feedback on external community relations plans as needed
Parent Care and Support
Aid the Parent Teacher Association or PTCA by facilitating its creation, supporting members in their initiatives, bridging the PTCAMaintains parent resource centerHelps parents understand the educational system so they can become better advocates for their children's educationAdvises and trains parents on how to address issues with the leadership staff in school meetingsProvides referrals to community-based services for familiesCommunicate with parents in meaningful ways on a regular basis to forge healthy relationshipsConduct check-ins with engaged and involved parents to ensure that the school is maintaining a positive relationship with these parentsDemonstrate appreciation towards parents for their efforts in novel and meaningful ways that show parents that the school cares and values themParent Involvement Resources
Provides workshops, classes, and activities for parents at their local school on a regular basisRecruits volunteers from the community to host various workshops and classes to speak directly with parentsProvides materials such as event calendars, brochures, and educational resourcesCreates opportunities for parents who have limited English proficiency, a disability or are underrepresented because of social economics or racial barriers to participate in education initiatives and enrichment workshopsProvides technical assistance relating to parental involvement as needed locally or at the district levelProgram Evaluation
Conducts surveys to assess the needs of parents at their local schoolReviews annual reports to evaluate the effectiveness of their parent involvement programsDevelops, analyzes, and distributes the results of parent surveys to the school's leadership team and / or Title I DirectorComplianceKeeps excellent records of all parent involvement activities, reports, surveys, funding, annual program evaluations, and communications to parentsEnsures compliance of the school or district's parent involvement program with all state and federal guidelinesProgram Coordination and Collaboration
Coordinates and implements research-based strategies for their local school(s) and / or district parent involvement program to engage parents in improving student achievement through the National PTA Family School Partnership StandardsCollaborates with local, regional, and state organizations to create opportunities to help families understand school academic standards, assessments and report cardsCollaborates with parents, teachers, and the school's leadership team to develop a family-friendly school climateCollaborates with other parent engagement professionals such as parent mentors and early education school transition coaches or other designeesPromotes parents as partners by involving them in the decision-making process regarding parental involvement activities and school improvementProfessional Development
Takes part in opportunities for professional development at the local, regional, and / or state level with proper authorizationAttends all local meetings and trainings for Parent Involvement CoordinatorsShares ideas and experiences with school or district staff, leadership team, and / or other parent professionalsRequirements

Be a United States citizen or otherwise have authorization to work in the United StatesAssociate degree (Bachelor degree preferred)Have the ability to pass an Atlanta Public Schools background checkExcellent communication and organizational skillsStrong public speaking and presentation skillsSelf-motivated leader who can work independently as well as part of a teamStrong interpersonal skillsKnowledge of family engagement research and literatureStrong knowledge of computers and fundamental technology (i.e. iPad, e-learning software, etc.)Understands and respects the diversity of families' economic, linguistic and cultural backgrounds and situationsAbility to host parent meetings off school sites and in the local community and / or neighborhoodsAbility to work flexible hours including some nights and weekendsREQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS :
Must hold or be able to obtain a GaPSC-issued clearance certificateWORK EXPERIENCE :
Experience serving as an advocate for children and parentsExperience with developing collaborative partners and building relationships with constituents in the community1-2 years administrative experience, preferably in an education setting. Experience working in Title I schoolsCOMPENSATION / BENEFITS :
