The Spray Technician applies chemicals and fertilizers at maintenance properties and plant health care sites. Prepares and completes daily, weekly and monthly reports ensuring accuracy prior to submission. The Spray Technician frequently works in public right-of-ways, commercial sites, multi-family properties, resorts, retail centers and other locations as assigned. This associate is responsible for safe accurate application of both granular, liquid, flowable and injectable fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides and pesticides in adherence to the label and all local and state laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains a high level of skill and safety in all phases of chemical application.
- Performs specific chemical application duties in accordance with company standards, and in conjunction with management staff.
- Completes related paperwork accurately and timely.
- Maintains production and spray equipment in a clean and organized condition.
- Maintains all records and reports in accordance with Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.
- Attends continuing education seminars and classes to remain knowledgeable of current industry practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Basic plant ID and understanding of plant biology, soils and plant pests and diseases.Working knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.Apply restricted chemicals, if required, in accordance with established regulations and to read, understand and follow chemical label instructions.Computer literacy and basic working knowledge of email and Microsoft Office.Effective customer service, organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.Ability to read and write English proficiently enough to comprehend and complete company documents, regulatory forms including, but not limited to pesticide and fertilizer labels.Basic knowledge of tools and machines, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.Moderate math skills to solve problems, calculate application rates and area.Ability to efficiently and accurately use an electronic handheld device to record Associate time worked.Required Licenses / Certifications
Must possess a valid California Driver's License and proof of auto insurance.A California Department of Pesticide Regulation issued Qualified Applicators Certificate or a Qualified Applicators License is highly preferred, but not required.Education / Experience
High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED).Minimum 2 years of turf and ornamental chemical application experience is preferred, but not required.Physical Requirements
Lifting, carrying and manipulating objects up to 50 pounds for varying periods of time. Constant standing, sitting, walking, stooping, squatting, bending, climbing, twisting, traversing uneven ground, including landscaped slopes, reaching, pulling, stretching, grasping and gripping (hand tools and equipment), getting in and out of vehicles (vehicle cab and bed) throughout the day.Must be able to wear all personal protective equipment according to company Safety Health and Environmental Policies, Industry Related ANSI Safety Requirements and OSHA Regulations.Work Conditions
Working conditions are outdoors with exposure to the following : Hot and cold temperatures, sudden changes in temperatures, varying levels of noise, slippery surfaces, rain, dust / dirt, fumes, wind, uneven ground and landscaped slopes.Equipment / Machinery
