Center for Latin Americans Studies (Humanities and Languages Division)
The Center for Latin American Studies is an interdisciplinary center focused on supporting Latin American-based activities including teaching, research, and community engagement.
We are in search of student workers at the Center for Latin American Studies to support the Center’s plans and initiatives.
This position is ideal for a student studying International Studies or World Languages.This position will prepare a creative and self-motivated student for a multitude of future employment endeavors.
The responsibilities are varied and will include :
- Provide light general office support, such as greeting guests at events, photocopying, printing, scanning, answering phone calls, taking messages, and maintaining common areas.
- Set up and manage International Studies and World Languages listservs and send out monthly newsletters to help promote the visibility of languages and CLAS across the college.
- Plan, organize, and host student events (daytime and occasional evenings).
- Set up, attend, and break down CLAS events.
- Create effective social media posts to promote language study related to the interdisciplinary nature of Latin American Studies and SLCC’s Languages Program.
- Develop and distribute promotional materials for CLAS and World Languages. Promote events through social media and the distribution of flyers around SLCC campus(es).
- Otherwise Support CLAS initiatives as needed.

Contribute to strong, positive relationships between the Center for Latin American Studies and the Languages Program in addition to other areas of the College.
- Communication Skills : Written and verbal communication will be pivotal in working with the World Language and International Studies faculty as it is necessary in every plan and project.
- Leadership : This position will provide opportunities to practice leadership skills, such as learning how to self-direct, juggle priorities, and manage time in order to be an effective part of a team.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications A passing grade in at least one class with a professor associated with CLAS.
SLCC student with Work Study award
Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate is highly motivated and has completed one Language and one International Studies course at SLCC and is currently continuing their study at the college.
They are academically curious, interested in and capable of graphic design, and believe strongly in the importance of helping others build language and cultural skills in order to participate effectively in globalized 21st-century communities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Capacity to complete work within deadlines.
- Skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with social media.
