The Prince George's County Police Department is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Counselor 4G, grade G27 position, in the Psychological Services Unit .
About the Position
This position involves responsibility in the areas of clinical psychology, forensic psychology, and clinical social work.
This position is responsible for providing emergency psychological intervention as part of a 24 hours a day, 7 days per week service to police department employees and their relatives. Work involves addressing job-related stress and trauma within the Police Department in addition to providing couple, family, and adolescent counseling. The incumbent will develop assessment techniques designed to evaluate psychological or behavioral traits within the County workforce. Work also involves conducting psychological interviews and psychotherapy; and will develop and deliver classroom instruction related to crisis intervention and in-service training to department personnel.
Work is performed with a high degree of competency in providing services to clients and / or in developing psychological profiles. Work is performed under close supervision of the Division Manager and is evaluated based upon reports and conferences designed to achieve treatment goals and program objectives. The work of this role is highly complex, and the ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, conscientious, and a hands-on team player. Candidates must exhibit excellent communication and debriefing skills, have a track record of working collaboratively with others and be comfortable with working on a rotating, on-call schedule 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

General Plan Information :
The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.
A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.
Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). The premiums for health benefits are deducted on a pre-tax basis with the exception of Long-Term Disability, Extra Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits (Short-Term Disability, Whole Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Cancer Indemnity, Hospital Indemnity Protection, Accident Indemnity Plan, Supplemental Dental and Group Legal Services).
New employees must enroll in the County's health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date.
The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.
After enrolling in the County's benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and / or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
