POSITION SUMMARY
This position reports to Manager, Pharmacy Operations. The Pharmacy Clinical Supervisor has dotted line reporting to the Director, Clinical Operations and Strategy. The Pharmacy Clinical Supervisor must have a Pharmacy degree from an accredited Pharmacy School, and be licensed in CA.
The Pharmacy Clinical Supervisor is responsible for the oversight of the clinical programs of the pharmacy department. In addition, the Pharmacy Clinical Supervisor provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist as needed. Maintain a professional presence throughout the hospital. Assure pharmacy services and activities are carried out to meet goals and standards of the hospital.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PRIMARY POSITION ROLES :
- Supervision of pharmacist personnel.
- Maintain, and update clinical pharmacy policies and procedure manual for the department.
- Participate and lead hospital P&T committee, assuring (but not limited to) the following items are part of the committee meetings : current drug trends, formulary additions, formulary deletions, annual formulary approval, non-formulary drug use, drug shortages, cost control initiatives, updates to the Policy and Procedure manual, annual review of order sets and protocols, black box warning, ADR reporting, pharmacy intervention reporting, controlled substance audit reporting, automation reporting.
- Lead Antibiotic Stewardship program, in with multidisciplinary team members. Develop and implement treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes and critical pathways as approved and authorized by appropriate committees
- Participate in hospital and quality committee meetings to enhance practice and patient care.
- Meet or exceed all Accreditation Bodies (TJC, DNV, CMS, BOP) standards related to pharmacy.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of information systems and other technology applications within the Pharmacy.
- Assist Pharmacy Operations Manager with best practices in formulary and cost control.
- Assist Pharmacy Operations Manager for all drug storage areas in accordance with legal and best demonstrated practice.
- Assist with the pharmacy quality activities including but not limited to medication use evaluations.
- Assist and lead the medication safety program in absence of Director, Clinical Operations and Strategy.
- Achieve acceptable scores on operations assessments / audits (Regulatory, Accreditation, BOP, etc.)
- Arrange / conduct hospital and pharmacy orientation for new hires within 60 days.
- Develop and implement a training and competency program for all staff and maintain records of those completed competencies.
- Assure adequate control and documentation of controlled substances.
Has Power of Attorney to order Schedule II drugs.
Assists Pharmacy Operations Manager to ensure documentation for all drug recalls.Attends and participates in departmental meetings, in-services, and quality improvement programs.Maintains all required training and education per department requirements
Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, fire, and infection control. Complies with all applicable state, local and federal regulations.SECONDARY POSITION ROLES :
Maintains safety-integrity-professionalism of pharmacy at all times.Provides in-services to staff and hospital professional staff.Assists Pharmacy Operations Manager with acquisition and renewal of all pharmacy licenses and permits and staff licenses.Annually reviews licenses for staff via Board of Pharmacy website.
Conducts periodic staff meetings.Performs special projects as requested.Performs as Staff Pharmacist as needed.Wears hospital badge identification while on duty.Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean. Is conscientious in regard to personal hygiene.Treats patients and families with respect and dignity. Assures confidentiality of patient records.Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.Assists in the resolution of problems or concerns while being a supportive team member.Consistently strives to promote great customer service in all aspects of the job.POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
Current license to practice Pharmacy in CA and maintains all required CE.Graduate of college of Pharmacy accredited by ACPE or equivalent - PharmD preferredB. Qualifications / Experience
Three (3) years of pharmacist experience or hospital pharmacy experience.At least one (1) year as a lead / supervisor role or equivalent in a pharmacy setting.Training and proficiency in age specific therapies for hospital patients : Neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and / or geriatricC.
