Itron is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join our Tax team. This role is responsible for sales and use tax compliance, exemption certificate management, and Oracle / Vertex testing for new releases and product updates.
You will manage compliance, audits, testing, and research while partnering with the business to ensure proper application of sales / use and GST tax in Vertex and Oracle.
The ideal candidate has experience with sales / use tax compliance, Oracle, and Vertex, as well as proven ability to analyze large datasets using technology and data management tools to identify and manage opportunities. A passion for automation and building efficient, accurate tax processes is essential.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Apply knowledge of sales and use tax laws to various goods and services, including exemptions
Leverage expertise in sales tax complexities for managed services, SaaS, and marketplace facilitator rules (preferred)
Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales / use tax and Canadian GST returns
Support audits by gathering documentation and responding to information requests
Maintain and update tax exemption certificates in Vertex O Series and related records
Manage business registrations for new locations and renewals of existing ones
Test Vertex for new software releases and new product introductions
Research sales tax issues or anomalies; collaborate with internal teams, third parties, and customers to resolve them
Reconcile sales and use tax accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies
Research state and local tax laws and apply findings to business operations
Assist with system implementations, upgrades, and process improvements to improve compliance efficiency and accuracy
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
2+ years of related tax or accounting experience
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience researching tax laws and regulations and ability to stay current with changes
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Preferred Skills & Experience
Working knowledge of Vertex O Series and Oracle
Experience using data tools such as Power BI and Alteryx to analyze and present large datasets
Travel : 0 - 10%
Physical Demands
This is a typical office job, with no special physical requirements or unusual work environment.
This position will be tied to our Liberty Lake, WA location with hybrid work flexibility of 2-3 days on-site per week.
Liberty Lake, WA : The base salary is $75,000 - $148,000.
