Job Details
The Accounting Manager will oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable / receivable, payroll, project accounting, and financial reporting. This position plays a key role in managing financial aspects of construction and public works projects — including job costing, contract compliance, and capital project tracking — while ensuring timely and accurate financial information.
The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of accounting principles in a public agency or construction environment, and hands-on experience with Sage accounting software.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department.
Supervise accounting staff and provide guidance, training, and performance management.
Oversee project accounting for public works and construction projects, including job cost tracking, progress billings, and retention management.
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Coordinate annual audit processes and ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with agency policies and public sector standards.
Prepare and monitor budgets in collaboration with department heads and project managers.
Manage cash flow, bank reconciliations, and investment tracking.
Support grant and funding documentation, reimbursement requests, and project closeout reporting.
Implement process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency in financial operations.
Serve as the primary contact for financial matters related to construction projects, contracts, and capital programs.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA or CMA certification preferred.
Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory or management role.
Experience in public works, construction accounting, capital projects, or municipal finance highly preferred.
Strong working knowledge of Sage (preferably Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate) or similar ERP / accounting systems required.
Experience with governmental accounting standards (GASB) preferred.
Skills & Competencies

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
High level of integrity and attention to detail.
Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
