The Digital Life Exchange (DLX) is looking for (5) service-minded college students or recent grads to provide valuable digital service support at various nonprofit sites. This is an IN-PERSON project.

What is a Digital Ambassador?

A Digital Ambassador is someone who is trained to assist community members in accessing and utilizing digital technology by providing simple guidance on internet connectivity, device usage, and digital skills development, and they may help teach a variety of digital skills to enhance individual digital literacy.

Do you tend to help your family and friends with their tech challenges, or want to use your natural digital skills and comfort with tech to help others access and use email and computers, get online or learn new tools and boost digital literacy?

The DLX, managed by KC Digital Drive, is seeking a few people-friendly college students or recent graduates for an exciting pilot program designed to expand digital literacy through digital navigation support in partnership with (5) local nonprofit organizations.

As a Digital Ambassador, you will gain valuable experience while making a tangible impact in the community. This is an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates looking to build their skills in digital literacy, social service, client support, and community engagement.

What kinds of things would I be doing?

  • Completing an initial 10 hours of Digital Ambassador training at the DLX headquarters in Kansas City, MO.
  • Providing one-on-one assistance to nonprofit clients, helping them improve digital literacy skills (e.g., navigating devices, using online platforms, etc.).
  • Assisting clients in developing a resume or how to submit an online job application.
  • Connecting clients with relevant community resources and opportunities that align with their needs and goals.
  • Supporting or teaching digital skills classes at nonprofit sites.
  • Collaborating with host site staff to identify additional areas for client support.

Where would I be working?

  • First, training will take place at DLX HQ over two Saturdays from 8 : 30-12 : 30pm in late Feb and early March, at 1801 Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64109 (dates are subject to change based on candidates availability).
  • Then, youll be matched to one of the following (5) nonprofit host sites to work specific hours / days :
  • Latinx Education Collaborative, 2301 Lexington Ave, Kansas City, MO 64124.
  • Journey to New Life, 3120 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO 64109.
  • Phoenix Family, 3908 Washington St, Kansas City, MO 64111 (and other locations).
  • Workforce Partnership 8535 Bluejacket St, Lenexa, KS 66214 (and other locations in Johnson County, Wyandotte County and Leavenworth County, Kansas).

    • How many hours per week?

    Flexible shifts are available ranging from 5 to 15 hours per week based on host sites needs. Youll earn $20 / hour.

    What skills or qualifications do I need?

  • Must provide your own transportation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a desire and patience to help others.
  • Proficiency in basic digital tools and applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, GSuite, email platforms, web browsing, mobile phone use).
  • Organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Availability for approximately 515 hours per week, including extended hours on specific days (schedule determined with the nonprofit host organization).
  • Background check required.

    1) If selected, this Project pays you for 10 hours of training at $20 / hour. Then, successful completion of training will unlock future hours (new projects) that youll work based on your availability.
